Mine is the original Macro, a NIKKOR 55mm 3.5mm ...was called a "Micro" back in 1965, the lens came with a lens extension that makes the image 1:1...I still use it on my Nikon D810.

Depends on which cameras. It would be my 50 f/1.5 Voightländer Nokton Aspherical for my rangefinders, 50 f/2.0 Summicron-R for my SL and SL2, and either my 50 f/2.8 PC-TS Schneider Super-Angulon HM or 55 f/1.4 Zeiss APO Otus Distagon T for my Nikons. To go a bit longer it’s my 58 f/5.6 Rodenstock Grandagon for my Graflex XL.

Beautiful! Enough for me; no humans required. How old is she?

Thank you. She is really a wonderful companion. She's 8 years old now.

I've shot extensively with a Minolta 50mm 1.8 in A mount but I find my Sony Zeiss 50f1.4 on the camera much of the time these days. I love how it renders the image.

That Micro Nikkor is a great lens. Incredibly sharp for walking around and you can move in on any subject down to 1:2. I've had mine forever - had it AI'd by Nikon way back when. Used it on a PB-4 bellows for making internegatives where you are focusing on the film grain, not a scene. It's a lens that can capitalize on every one of those D850 pixels.
For night work, I have an old 55mm 1.2 Nikkor SC. It has nowhere near the sharpness, but has a great nighttime feel.

Who says the 50mm lenses are no longer popular anymore, because zoom lenses have replaced them? Wrong. Proof is in the threads of this created Post.

I don't have one for my Sony digital camera, but for my old film Canon AE-1 Program, which I still have and have film in and for, my one 50mm prime is a canon FD 50mm f/1.8. If I read a web page correctly, it was made in November 1985. I have a Fotodiox adapter for the lens so I can use it on my Sony, but I've only tried a few times. I don't think the quality of a manual lens from 32 years ago is of the same as a newer model.

Sure the quality of vintage lenses is not the same as modern lenses just different. I shoot with new Fuji lenses on my XT1/XE2 but also with vintage Nikon lenses 35mm F2.8, 105mm F2.5, a 50mm F1.7 Konica Hexanon and a 135mm F3.5 Konica Hexar. The Fuji lenses are brilliant and so are the others - just different. All can produce great images. I love using the old lenses for their tactile feel and their IQ. I suppose it's what ever turns you on.

When you ask about 50mm or 55mm I have to think that you are talking about the older lenses, I have several, the 8 element Takumar 1.4, the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm 1.4, the 55mm 1.8, the Pentax SMC K mount 50 1.4 and 1.7, the Olympus Zuiko OM 50mm 1.4, a Minolta PF 58mm 1.4 that I have to work on to fit the Canon mount, then the newer lenses, the Canon 2.5 Macro, along with a Sigma EX and Canon USM 50 1.4s... I don't have a favorite, I love them all.
Is the 8-element Takumar noticeably better than the SMC Takuma?
