GL with that! I’ve seen 2 pros use the canon 200mm f2 where the photos looked sooooooo 3D like! Amazing results.

I have been recently trying my lens and comparing to see which I like the best. I have three that are considered to be good for portraits. After comparison I believe it is a mater of choice and whether you are using them on a full frame or a crop sensor. My two cameras are Canon 7d and 5dii. I have been fine tuning my lens micro adjustment and have come to the conclusion that all have their strong points. Lighting and space seems to be the determining factor for one lens over another for me. I am thinking about adding 85mm 1.8 but not sure if would be beneficial as I have it covered some what and do not do that much portrait. I can not afford any lower f stop than 1.8.

Lenses that don't fit a Canon or a M4/3 camera are useless for me.
It also depends on where you are shooting and what lenses you have with you.
You have lots of cameras - what are your experiences?

All deepens on what type of portrait you are doing. Is it going to be a sharp head shot for business purposes or a soft focus to put in the bedroom? For a soft focus I have an old 100 mm single lens with only one f/stop - f/4. With just one lens element it is sharp in the middle and soft on the edges. - dave

Got a point, there, Old Timer ... the Canon EF 85 f1.8 lists for $420 ... the f1.4 for $1600, and the f1.2 for a cool two grand!
By contrast, you could pick up the 100mm f2 for just $599, the 100 f2.8 Macro USM for the same price, and the 135 f2 for a grand, even ...
OR - you could go the zoom route, like I did (for your 7D only) and pick up the 15-85 IS USM for just $799 .... then, you have ALL your bases covered ....
