Fresh carb and mice

There is one stud cavity in my house that over the last 3+ decades mice (40ish times) crawl into and die. It then stinks to high heaven. Of the multiple dozen cavities this is the Only one where this has ever occured. What on earth could cause this?
About three years ago I found a product called fresh carb rodent repellant and until today haven't had a single mouse in there. Now I can no longer find fresh carb in stores or on line. Many online sites like amazon list it but it is out of stock or in some way not available. TSC says they are no longer able to order it.
Any help with either of these questions greatly appreciated.
I know use irish spring and cayene pepper, no idea if this will work.

Try nutmeg. I've been told that mice can NOT stand nutmeg. Don't know for sure, though. Good luck!

Thanks for the idea, how do you use an atomizer in a closed space?

I ran a lead up into the attic, plugged it in and away it went. My wife uses them both home and work. The ones she has run about 8 hours.

Have just been corrected. It was a diffuser,( https://www.rockymountainoils.com/shoprmo/catalog/diffusers.html )not an atomizer.
Apologies if I put anyone wrong.
Cheers

You could add moth balls to the list of repellants. I get mice looking to nest inside my off-season equipment stored in my shed so I scatter moth balls in and around the engine and that seems to keep them away. This works for pretty much any mammal including humans so don't try them inside any living area in your house, though.

I have heard that the dryer sheets like Bounce act as a good repellent. Put them in the cupboards of my camper when I winterize it and have not had rodent problems yet. Might just be coincidence though, but cheap enough to give a try, right?

A San Francisco/Oakland TV station was talking about the crab harvest just this morning. Seems crab season will be delayed again this year because the crabs don't have enough meat on them or something like that. A lot of people are trying to order it with no luck.

I also found mothballs seem to work for mice but not for ground squirrels. I have ground squirrels digging nests under the concrete slab of our barn. I stuffed about 10 mothballs into every opening and pounded dirt into the holes to seal them. Two days later the squirrels had pushed the dirt and the mothballs out from under the barn and were still using the holes. The squirrels weren't bothered by fresh mothballs and I tried this supposed remedy at least a half a dozen times and each time they just pushed the mothballs out of the holes. Bummer....

Mothballs are not under consideration as this stud bay is right in the middle and mothballs would work. - on me!
Thanks though!
