Here is a link to another type of photography. There are some very beautiful examples of this style in the gallery section of Eva Polak. I warn you, it's not for everyone. It's a very interesting style, but likely for the pure artist.

Liked a lot of the work. Thought the "Urban" shots felt very automated with the automation not adding anything to work. By that I mean those shots appear to use shutter drag with motion where the duration and the motion were very much the same from shot to shot. These shots seemed more like experiment than accomplished work. The other shots, however, seem more mastered and directed toward a vision.

Saw two of the “urban” images that I liked. One apparently a lobby hallway of a bank or office building and the other was a city skyline. Both are scenes I was very familiar with during my business career so I had no trouble imagining how they appeared in reality and seeing the validity of the “impressionist” version. UHH member “dsmeltz” contributes some valid points regarding technique in his post above.

“We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.”

― Pablo Picasso

I'm not sure the artist meets the criteria of the last sentence in this quote.

Oh Boy, I like a few of the images here and there, especially some of the macro shots. But I really can stand for maybe one or two of each type of subject and then move on. So much of it makes me think perhaps I should not have deleted some of my own errors. I might have some negatives not unlike some of these that I never printed. Yes, pure art, impressionism well beyond my own contemplative and abstract images. But I realize these were not mistakes but carefully thought out, again, especially the macro and close-up shots. Does not dissuade me from Edward Weston in the least.

A little bit of bokeh and some out of focus can do wonders.

There’s a box?

The "box" is the set of rules we work within. Rule of thirds, 1/mm shutter speed, avoid camera shake, etc... In every art there are rules and a box. The great work is done when, knowing and understanding the box, we step out of it and create new rules that expand the art.

A lot of those seem like badly taken shots which are then labeled impressionistic for the gullible and naive people out there, which sadly, are a LOT of people.

People have different tastes in art. Just because someone likes or is moved by a piece of art you don't like doesn't mean they are gullible and naive. When impressionist painting came along, a lot of people felt like the people who liked it were gullible and naive. Now it is very popular.

It popular alright, which sadly correlates with how this world is going. Now there are more gullible people around. Sorry, there is nothing artistic in most of those images.

So people who like impressionist paintings are also gullible? It must be very satisfying to have so much better taste than other people.

Tomato or tomAHto. Gullible or blindly narrow minded.
