Nikon DSLR programming ?

I have a Df body that no longer shows the histogram after each shot as I had set it. I had it programmed that way for the last year. Not sure what I've done but the histogram no longer appears at any time. I have gone into the playback display options to make sure the histogram box is checked. It is. I've turned off all the options & then turned them back on. I've also removed the battery & reinserted it, all to no avail. I have not returned the body back to factory settings & started over however. I'm missing something but no idea what that is. & yes I've read the owners manual & descriptions of the procedure on the Nikon USA website. Any suggestions would be greatly welcome. I can live without it but would like to be able to reprogram it on or off. Thanks in advance.

Youtube is often your friend. Whenever I have DSLR or Mirrorless problems I go to Youtube and see if a video deals with my dilemma. In this case I would search Youtube for the info or histogram settings on my Nikon DF. That's also how I find out when someone has set custom modes and profiles on my cameras.

When reviewing an image, press your joystick control up one time to view the histogram.

Thanks. Yes that works for one channel. In the past when shooting milky way shots I had it set so after each shot I would get a preview plus an rgb histogram to help me plan shots for stacking. That's what I've somehow turned off & no longer get. Hope that clarifies.

Try

Under playback display/additional photo info, check box for rgb histogram.

It might be joystick down for rgb histogram instead of up.

How odd. 4 clicks up on the joystick shows the 3 channel histogram. I used to get it automatically after each shot. I'm going to start unchecking some of the data points one at a time & see where this leads. I may have to hire a 15 year old!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the suggestion. That's progress.

Four clicks up is probably the same as one down as these settings cycle. I believe it should remain set however you leave it.

OK thanks. Issue resolved. I unchecked several items I don't need/want to see after every shot, leaving the rgb checked & it now functions as it has in the past. Still no idea how I changed it but definitely did. Now to wait till spring & summer to make use of this when planning astro shots. Thanks one & all. For now the sky is rarely clear here so on to other adventures in photography, but astro work has me hooked tight. I'm glad I found this site!

I believe I now understand what occurred. I had checked all the possible playback options. If you do that there is not enough room on the lcd screen to display it all. Therefore you have to toggle through the info. By limiting what you select you make more room & the display will show what you ask for after each exposure. Lesson learned. Perhaps this will be useful for someone else in the future. Thanks again to all for their thoughts.

It most certainly was! I bought a Df so I can use all my old glass and I love it, but it will do so many things the learning curve is steep.

That was my frustration, all the new bodies that lacked full compatibility with old glass. I have lenses dating back to the 60's & they all work well. And yes, trying to figure out all those programming options took some serious time & effort. But in the end I'm quite pleased with the Df. The autofocus on a 300 or 400mm is just amazing. The most useful change I made to its setup, fwiw, was, for me, the back button focus. I did not at all like the autofocus being tied to a half depression of the shutter release. Hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am mine.
