Does anyone know of a free background removal software that is user friendly? Thanks!

I can suggest a couple that cost a little and take awhile to learn! Mostly, I'm responding to see if there are better answers.

I tried a google for "background remover free" and found a few that I know nothing about.

"On1 Photo Raw 2018" has an excellent process for masking and background removal. Free trial available.

I would try using GIMP.

www.gimp.org

This is the official website of the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).

GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. It is free software,

Gimp is free. But I think the OP wanted "user friendly".

I agree with Julian. On1 Photo Raw has a great tutorial on how to remove a background.

Photoshop CC is not that complicated:

1-In Photoshop, open the foreground and background image.
2-On your foreground image, select the Select and Mask from the Select menu.
3-Use different selection tools to paint over the image you’d like to keep. You may change the View mode to On Black to see which areas need more attention.
4-To change the background, copy the background image and paste it on the foreground. Resize and/or drag the background image to reposition.
5-In the Layers panel, drag the background layer below the foreground image layer.
