"A Huge Moral Dilemma"
It shouldn't be a "huge moral dilemna" for anyone; you send it back, of course!
Lowe’s delivered two sets of storage shelves when I only ordered (and paid for) one set. I didn’t have a vehicle that would carry the large box (e.g., my XK8), so I called and asked them to pick up - they said just keep it.
PS Wish it had been an 850!
If you opened the box and it was empty, would you expect B&H to make good on it? So, we should all do the same thing...
How can this be a moral dilemma unless the recipient is a politician? The rest of use would just notify B&H.

Isn't it many times the case that when we purchase something and do not receive the merchandise, we throw a tizzy-fit. And scream at the store for screwing up... But when the store sends more than we ordered, the normal thing we humans think of is, "wow! How lucky can you get." I applaud both the people who elected to return the extra merchandise...No matter how the salesperson reacted to the call. But on the other hand, if the store said, "thats ok, keep it..." well that is a horse of a different color.
You guys did the right thing....
Rich...
Absolutely. Shouldn't even be a question.

Many years ago when I was living in Southern California, I checked my current bank statement and noticed a deposit for almost $500. Not knowing what it was all about I called the bank's 800 number and talked to one of their representatives. He looked around in their stuff and couldn't account for the deposit either. So I set the money aside because I knew they would eventually figure it out and come back for it. They finally did but it took them a year to do it. Seems the person who made the deposit finally got around to checking his bank statements and couldn't find his deposit so naturally he griped to the bank about it.
Of course you return the extra camera. I think I know what happened. I looked at the photos and it appears Sony ships the cameras two to a box to the store/distributor. They stocked the box unopened probably thinking each tan colored box contained a single unit even though they are clearly marked as containing two. People at the B&H warehouse all along the line failed to simply READ the box and stop the error. So the two-fer box shipped out as if it were a single unit. We have discussed here numerous times how B&H is a good, responsive dealer and I do not remember any Hogs complaining about dealing with them. So even the best make mistakes from time to time. I just hope the people who got the extra cameras did the right thing. And.. this is a good example of how the law, which states returning the item is NOT required, does not embody the concept of doing the right thing.
Ten years ago I purchased a new Powermatic table saw. I had problems with it under warranty, and the phone rep said they'd send a replacement 3 HP motor (which I had to install!) Three weeks passed and no motor. I called back and they said they'd send it out. Next day, a motor arrived. Two weeks later, a second motor arrived. I called to tell them I got two and needed one picked up. Two weeks later I called again. They never came to get the second motor. I assume someone was too embarrassed to admit they'd made a mistake!

Darn nice table saw. Amazing it had a motor problem. Well you at least tried to do the right thing. That was the important part.
Reminds me of the story of the gent who called his bank to complain about a $100 charge against his account the bank had made in error.
The customer service rep apologized for the mistake and told him it would be corrected.
This wasn't enough for him and he continued to rant about how irresponsible the bank was, what poor control over his account, etc.
While he continued his tirade the rep was scrolling thru his account activity and noticed that six months prior the bank had mistakenly added $1,000 to his account. When he finally shut up the rep asked him why he hadn't questioned the bank on that mistake.
"One mistake is tolerable" he replied,
"A second one is unacceptable"
Last summer I sold a chipper on Craigs List. A guy called about it and came out to look it over. He agreed on my price of $300, handed me the money, loaded the machine and left. When re-counting the money, I realized that two $100 bills had stuck together, so he had overpaid me by $100. I called the guy up and he was very happy and surprised that I had called. He came back to get the $100 and brought a bottle of wine as an appreciation gift.
It seemed simple to do the right thing, and I probably gained a friend in the process.
Wow. What a costly mistake by B&H. I doubt all will return them. I would have returned the camera. But two for the price of one, at $3000+ each, is a dream come true. I would not pay return delivery. And would have requested confirmation that it was received, to avoid any future hassles. Young Sales Clerks have sometimes overpaid me on my cash back purchases. I tell them they gave me too money. And sometimes they intentionally shortchange me. I let them know about that too.
