Just would like some advise using Nikon D5500. Which lens is better to use when taking landscape pictures? AF-S Nikkor 18-140mm or AF-P Nikkor 70-mm?
I am an amateur photographer with the DSLR camera.

Are there any classes, videos or books to read?

Do you have the 18 - 140? Try shooting it at 18 and see if that is what you want. If you want more, either move back or get another wider angle lens. I have the 18 - 140 and just bought the Nikon 10 - 20 for about $330. Good in daylight and great for landscapes.

While it is the norm that wide angle lenses are best suited for landscapes photography, there are some who have said on this forum. Not so quick on this choice. However, it suits me to use a wide angle. I use my Nikon kit lens, 18-55mm for what little landscapes photography I do. My next lens will be a wide angle zoom lens, such as the Tokina 11-20mm or the Nikon AF-P 10-20mm. I also own the AF-P 70-300mm. You could use that lens for distant close up landscapes shots. Why not? The D5500 does not have the internal focus motor. Choose lenses accordingly. Otherwise you'll be in manual focus only. Not so bad either. Sometimes.

My earlier quote was my opinion. I am not a know it all, I am learning still. I will refrain from giving others my opinion and go back to just reading.

The 18-140 at around 24 mm. At 18mm, you loose the trees through the forest.

It’s ok, I was just in a mood yesterday and need to not take things so seriously. I see you are from Tucson as well.

Welcome to the Hog Buttons, the 18-140 would be a good choice, also a great walk around lens.

Re: the Nikon 10-20. Is that the AF-P lens? If so, I am told that with my D7200 I cannot use it on a tripod as there is no way to turn off the VR. Have you heard anything about this?

I have a D7100 and my favorite lens is a Nikor 18-200 . I use this lens for everything . I buy all my lenses from KEH , they have good quality used lenses , they guarantee their product and you have Nikon lenses instead of a a other brand.
