Venice - Dolomites trip suggestions.
I am in the early stages of planning a 7-10 day trip to Venice and the Dolomites next end of April / Early May. Rough outline so far, is a couple of days in Venice (and Burano!) then rent a car for a loop around Cortina, Bolzano, Trento, Lake Garda, Verona and back to Venice. I've been to Venice a couple of times before so I know my way around there. Looking for recommendations for photo opps and 'must sees' in the Dolomites and Lake Garda area. Is April/May a good time to catch alpine flowers, snow caps etc. Which side of Lake Garda is most photogenic? I've read that the West side is mostly tunnels and no where to stop and the East side has some long boring stretches. Google says the whole loop is approx 8 hours driving time, but I would spread it out over maybe 4 days so we will have time to explore if you have some recommendations.
I look forward to your pictures.

Is it a different milky way than the one in Kansas?

Yes, because in the Dolomites there are interesting rock formations to combine with the Milky Way. Whereas in Kansas, there are fields of wheat.
We did this loop last Septemberwith the addition of Lakes Como and Margiorre. The castle in Simione on Lake Garda and the WW1 museum outside Cortina are good photo opportunities. Driving in the Dolomites can be tedious. Drive carefully!
If you have that much time, include Lake Como. It is the most picturesque of the Italian finger lakes.

Thanks. We spent three days in Varenna/ Belagio on Lake Como two years ago. It is indeed beautiful. I was hoping that Lake Garda might be just as pretty, but I'm not getting much feedback.
We're postponing the Italy trip for awhile. When the first snow came last weekend I got chilled to my bones and booked a trip to Martinique instead.
