It might seem like a good idea, but the purpose of the mail carrier is to deliver the mail, not to judge it. I almost threw away two pieces of junk mail from Verizon. Out of curiosity, I opened one. It contained a check for overcharging on taxes. The second piece of mail contained another check. I bet Verizon intentionally made them look like junk mail, hoping people would just throw them away.

Rebate checks also are delivered as disguised junk mail.

Of course! Some rebate checks are hardly worth the effort. Below is one we received in 2001.

I can't quite read the sign- does it say, "No Junk Mail"?
The post office is paid to deliver all of the mail,
so I don't think they have the option of discarding some of it.

I think if I was delivering leaflets for the newly opened "Pizza shop" I would still push it through (quietly).."No junk mail" sign or not!!
