I had problems with "Image Data Converter" such as slow performance and hanging up completely with non-internal drives. This one seems to be a leap forward and comes in 3 modules. On my computers, both Mac and Windows, it's small, fast and easy to use. It's no replacement for stuff like LR, Luminar, CaptureOne and so on. But it does allow you to work with a Sony raw image in ways that I've not seen elsewhere. I only cared about the "Edit" module but there is a Viewer and a Remote module, too.
The most Sony-specific feature is that in the Edit program you can switch "Creative Style" just as you would in the camera and then export a TIF or JPG. This makes it doubly nice to skip the JPG in-camera altogether.
IMHO, especially since it's free, it's worth a look if you shoot raw with Sony. All others should disregard.

a6k,
Got it. Thanks! I had the same issues w/ the IDC application.

Update, bad news, good news..
I discovered, I think, that this program is the exception to the rule. It can and will modify the original raw file! Of course that only happens with "save" rather than "export" but I think it did that to me. It makes sense that in general, edit programs can't do that. It is different in this case, I suppose, because it's a Sony program working on Sony files. I still think it should not do it.
The good news is that the program can send the modified version of the image to another editor. I tried it with Luminar, CaptureOne 10 (for Sony) and RawTherapee. It sends the modified image as a TIFF.
Just FYI.
I haven't been too happy with "Image Data Converter" either. Thanks for info on the new program. I'm anxious to try it on my next batch of raw captures.

Whenever you work on a raw file, you modify the raw file, it does not matter what program you use!
