I used a ton of ektachrome back in the day, but always like the Kodachrome better. When I go to my old slides to scan the Kodachrome always seem to have survived in better condition. I do keep them all in a dry dark environment...

Ektachrome always seemed to have a slight cold appearance while Kodachrome was warmer.

I also wonder if Kodak actually still exists and if not, who is making the film? Are there chemicals available to develop the film in a personal darkroom. Ektachrome major advantage for me over Kodachrome, the gold standard in that era, was my ability to develop it myself.

I level ektachrome with E6 processing.

I probably used 10,000 rolls of Ektachrome in my 20s, and processed about half of that, myself. I have no urge to see or use or process another roll of it.

Yes to both. Kodak Rochester is making the Ektachrome in Rochester. And there are E6 home kits available. If you go to your favorite purveyor of Podcasts, download The Kodakery for this past Tuesday. All you need to know about the rebirth of Ektachrome (which Kodak announced back in January).

I am not against progress, but it is nice to see Kodak attempting a come back. Perhaps if people do their own processing they will 1) appreciate the science of photography more 2) appreciate the history of photography and 3) understand the phenomenal resolution that film had. Yes I am a bit of a dinosaur, but when I speak about spending hours in my darkroom and what developing and printing was about, I find an audience at attention.

Kodak should have listened to Paul Simon.
