I currently use Photoshop Elements 14. Is an up-grade to Elements 2018 worth the cost?

What features does 2018 have that 2014 doesn't? Are one or more of those new features worth the cost to you? I'm still on PSE 13 and happy as a clam

I still use E11 version and do not use all of what it offers. Perhaps it is time for me to look at E2018 version.

I use PSE 14, upgraded from 11, and am perfectly happy with it. I do t like the way PSE 2018 takes over prioritizing your imports and purports to automatically identify your favorites. Makes me suspicious.

The primary creative tools change little. The new things featured in 2018 are improved "Organizer", a trick to change closed eyes to open eyes, easier slide show sharing on YouTube and a few others.

The significant need for upgrading has to do with new cameras and shooting RAW. If you buy a new camera, shoot RAW and don't have other software like Lightroom, you'll want to buy and upgrade along with the new camera.

If this is of concern to OP or others, the free Adobe DNG converter works great (recommended to me on UHH). Yes, it's an extra step, but if the main issue is about older versions of Elements not supporting raw files of newer cameras, it's worth considering.

It would be worth the cost to me. It adds features that look like they're worth having. Take a look at Costco. They often have good deals on Adobe products.

On Black Friday / Cyber Monday Best Buy, Staples, New Egg, and others generally run a special Adobe Photoshop Elements for $49 and A better buy a combo of Photoshop & Premier Elements for only $79. This is great if you occasionally need to edit video. Worth waiting a week for.

I have PSE 13 and bought PSE 18 mainly to process RAW files from a new Fuji camera but really for the number of RAW photos I take with the Fuji I would just use the DNG converter and save my money if I was doing it again.

An alternative to using the DNG converter is to use either Nikon's ViewNX 2 (or Capture NX if you prefer), or Canon's DPP4 to do the conversion.

I routinely use ViewNX 2 to batch convert.

I just don't see the point of updating just to get the converter for a new camera.

Others have added good things to consider. I do have one thing to add. Right now my PSE 2018 uses RAW 10.0, which is identical to my PS CC version. I have found that PSE 2018 (as earlier versions did) updates ACR at the same time as Lightroom and Photoshop, but with their reduced features as expected.

I have also attached an Excel spreadsheet that represents my interpretation of both the Organizer and the Photo Editor of PSE since PSE 11. FWIW

My opinion: Since you have version 14, I would suggest you step up to 2018, but not for what's in 2018.... more for what you would gain from what they included into Elements 15. Not much new (that works) in 18 but going from 14 to 18 would be a great way to obtain the great improvements that have been included in 15. OR, if avaiable anywhere you might just pick up a version of 15 (and possibly for less $$$).

Papa Joe,

Do you intend to mean that the eye blinky thing does not have great value?

I broke down and bought Elements 2018 after the latest Win 10 upgrades rendered my Elements 11 editor useless. I tried everything to get E11 to work again, and decided $80 was worth the reduction in frustration. I also am learning Lightroom and Photoshop CC, but wanted to keep Elements just because. Redundant, but helpful as I plow thru learning curve.
