Have opportunity to buy used Nikon D5500 in good condition for good price. Do not know Nikon products. My primary (and only) camera is a Fujifilm X-T2. Nikon would be back-up. Comments about D5500 welcome. Thanks.

I have a D5300 which is a couple of iterations before the D5500 but cameras are very similar. I really like the 5300, it does everything I ask of it. Videos are very good but DSLR is hard to use for video since it's not designed for holding the camera. Really like the rear screen and being able to move it. Remote sensors front and rear for catching the remote signal.
It does NOT have an internal focus motor like the D7200 line. So you have to get lenses with -S meaning they have their own focus motor.

I love my D5500 - does everything I ask of it and a whole lot more that I don't know yet lol. Mostly I love it for its ease of use and fit in my hand. It is what they call a mid-range camera so it goes from beginner to pro. I know a portrait photographer that wouldn't give his up and uses it all the time (mainly weddings and outdoor events) If it is a good deal - get it!

I have my SECOND D5500. Love this camera! It has really, really nice image quality. Nearly as good as the D7200, they share the sensor and software. You will enjoy the IQ, that’s for sure!

I would choose the D5500 over the D7200 mainly because of the lighter weight and smaller size of the D5500. Here's a really excellent comparison of the two cameras.

I know I already said it too many times all over the UHH pages, but I love that camera, had it for almost a year and half, took tons of pictures and will stick with it for some time for sure. As previously stated above it has a sensor identical to D7200 which was picked by DxO as #1 APSC camera. D5500 was second. I chose it because the grip felt great in my hand, but mainly for its size and weight (hiking and travel) Articulated touch screen was not a priority at all, but then I realized how much we're used to do everything on our phones - zoom, focus, shutter release, immediately review details of the photos so there was no time needed to get used to it at all. There may not be all kinds of bells and whistles like focus fine tuning tools, gps, two card slots, lenses need to have built in AF motor, but for the money I was willing to spend at that time it has very good image quality as far as I'm concerned. It depends on your expectations, but I don't feel like there is a need for me to upgrade to much more expensive body anytime soon.

The hockey shot is grainy, because of less than ideal conditions and slow lens forced me to use high ISO and it's shot through the plexiglass. None of these is perfect, but I'm learning... :-)

I do not have any experience using the Nikon D5500 but what I know tells me it is a great entry camera.
If the camera is operating to specs and the price is right I see no issues buying it.

The tree was lit by near campfire, tent by my cellphone, rest was lit by moonlight sometimes around midnight, exp. 20 sec or so. I wish my camera was set to RAW, but it wasn't...

I upgraded from a 9-year-old Canon Rebel to the D5500 last spring, choosing it over the D7200. I chose the 5500 because it is lighter and more compact than the 7200, I've found the touch screen surprisingly
useful and it shares the same sensor and most of the software with the 7200. Coupled with a good lens, it's a really good camera.
