Lightroom catalog : moving between windows and Mac

Question about moving my Lightroom catalog
I use a HP Windows 10 desktop machine for post processing my images. Am using LR Classic.
Now am going across Europe on a month’s holiday and my daughter has offered to lend me her spare MacBook laptop to carry along to download and post process the many photos I will shoot whilst on holidays.

My question: can I copy my catalog from the windows machine to the Mac and process images and then on my return copy the catalog back from the Mac to the windows machine? My LR catalog references to over 70,000 images and I want to be safe, hence the above question to the forum.

Has anyone tried this and had success?

Why? Leave your 70,000 images at home, and create a new catalog on the Mac. Place the vacation images in a Collection that you set up to synch with Adobe cloud, which will allow you easy synching to your desktop. Or, just export the Mac catalog to a USB stick and import it into LR on your Desktop. Copy the catalog to your desktop HD before importing into LR, prevents confusion.

My intention was to do exactly what you described above. I merely wanted to ensure the integrity of the catalog would be not be compromised if copying / moving the catalog between two different operating systems.

Question about moving my Lightroom catalog br I us... (show quote)

No, but I highly doubt there would be any issue. The format is the format be on a Unix, win, mac, etc etc.. That would like asking if a .doc file from a mac can be read on win?

Why would you want to take 70,000 photos on a vacation to Europe? I'm pretty sure they won't mind being left at home, safe and sound. Simply create a new catalog on the Mac and when you get home, import that catalog into your main catalog. But if you like playing Russian Roulette...
