Death in the Park

Tule Springs are a few miles north of Las Vegas. They've been there hundreds of years. Good place to "shoot" birds in the fall. I've seen Blue Herons catching fish but this is the first time I've ever seen one catch a mouse out of it's hole in the ground. I think he's done it before. I did have to remove a pole sign in the background. The entire time on the clock took 3 seconds: d500, f6.3, 1/1000, ISO1250

Great sequence! I was surprised about a heron eating mice, but I guess they will since there are less fish in the region.

Blue Heron's will eat about anything they can catch. I was sent a video of one catching a gopher in someone's back yard. It made a pretty big bulge in the heron's neck.

That was a great sequence. I was surprised that they ate mice. I think of them as only eating fish. Learn something new on this site every day.
