I have been out for a while. I had my second back surgery in July. Spending the winter in Florida. Trying to get my camera out and get some nice shots. I’m trying to learn photoelements13 too. Hopefully soon I will post some pics I have.

Welcome back! I'm really new here; I joined 2 weeks or so. I already learned a lot. Like using GIMP for editing since I can't afford PhotoShop right now... etc...

Good luck! I am 4 years post my back surgery and still not back to the way I was before the surgery, except for the fact that I can walk, stand and even play some golf, although 10 strokes worse! My photography is coming along, as is my drawing. I concentrate on improving my photography "in the camera" and plan for NO post shooting processing as my ideal. A lot of the photos I see here are heavily post exposure processed! I don't turn my 4K TV on vivid, why would I do that to my photos! There are some minor touch ups available with the basic software from the camera manufacturers and Microsoft!

I had fusion surgery this time. I haven’t worked in 3 yrs. haven’t been able to do anything close to what I did before for as long. Hopefully by spring I can work somewhere as I got denied disability before the second surgery. As for my golf game I have played a little and yes I lost some distance and don’t have near the power I did but I have a lot more control now as my swing is really slowed down .

My Dad always used to say, that nobody knows back pain until it happens to you. I was in a car accident and hurt my back because the force of being rear-ended went straight to my back. I tried a chiopractor, and I didn't like it. My dad told me to just stay in bed for 2 weeks. It was a desperate situation, but I did stay in bed for 1.5 weeks and felt a lot better. I'm not saying that surgery is not needed. I'm just saying that I understand back pain.

Welcome back Racin17. We hope that the back pain does go away. I've had back problems for over 40 years and know how painful it can be. I have worked with physical therapists and some have worked really well with me, others haven't. I do know that certain exercises may help. Am hoping you will take the time to let it heal and not rush into things. Listen to your body. Good luck and hoping to see some photos in the near future.

I just got through with 3 weeks physical therapy on my back from a really good therapist. The doctor that prescribed PT is one of those that considers surgery as the last resort. Not saying anything against the surgery you all had done; your situation was probably different than mine. I am continuing exercises every day at home as well as my morning walks. Welcome relief after the injuries I suffered getting bucked off a horse (1st time in 35 yrs., BTW). But if you ride long enough, it's going to happen. Decided at my age (early 70"s) I was time to quit riding.

The medical literature really suggests surgery is not any better in the long term then other treatments. Opioids are considered of little use, and acupuncture and PT effective for the short term, not long term. I tried everything, except opioids, and when I was essentially wheelchair bound, I went for stenosis repair and triple fusion. I am much better, but still am numb down my right leg and back tires easily. I lost at least a clublength in golf and my driver is so erratic as to be almost worthless to me! my back surgeon is known worldwiden and even invented many of the devices used in the surgeryn but i still ended up in icu almost deadn and spent 2 weeks in inpatient rehab and 6 weeks outpatient!

Thanks, I am happy to be alive! The residual "pain" is usually responsive to 2 extra-strength Tylenol. I am very stiff when I get out of bed, but once I move around, spend 30 minutes on my treadmll and 20 on my elliptical, I feel great. I assume some of this is from natural, endogenous, opioid-like substances.

had 5and half operation 17 months ago fine if I don't do anything, bending over like making bed or loading dishwasher is a no no. Compression I think was caused by jumping out of helicopters from 30 feet in nam.

You might try "LightZone" it is open systems and is free. I downloaded it last week and it seems a lot simpler than GIMP which I also use.
