Why are members posting so many photos in the Main Section?

I think the way this forum is set up people, especially new members, do not understand that photos just for the sake of showing a photo, should be shown in the Gallery section; I'm seeing more and more people post photos in the Main Photography Discussion section. I'd like to see this forum set up somehow differently on the front page, not with everything just in a line continuing down the page. I believe that many sections are missed because of the way the forum is set up and I've read posts where people say they did not know that there are other sections beyond what they initially see. The Main Photography Discussion is not for viewing photos, unless the photos pertain to some point that is being made. Photos, just for showing off or viewing, belong in the Gallery Section.

Yeah, darn newbies anyway.
When you click on 'create new topic', the Main Photograph section comes up, and if you miss it, and fail to click on what you wanted in the first place, then it goes to the Main, and well, we've probably all did it at one time or another. Oh well.

They probably don't look and see it is a pick-list, and also don't realize that the gallery is for general displaying.

If I want to see people's photos I go to the Gallery section. If I want to look at and browse other topics, I go to the Main Photography Discussion section. That's just how it was set up and it works for me and others. I am much more interested, for the most part, in the Discussion section than in viewing other's photos so, yes, it does make a difference to me. And I am not "making a big deal" out of it at all, just saying, in essence, that it would be nice to post items where they were intended to be posted and that it would be nice if the front page were a little easier to read and understand, maybe a little upgrade so we could actually see all topics listed. Just my opinion and thanks for yours.

Which is why an upgrade and some improvement to the site might be good for all.

When I first joined, I didn't know, but maybe because I was so excited and didn't read the rules! Now I got yelled at for posting a photo to someone's post so they could compare similar photos and I am accused of high jacking someone's post, well not so, but I listen, learn, and don't do it again!

At first blush it looks like if you just want to post a picture the Gallery is the right choice. But if you want to discuss your photo ....

I posted my first in the wrong forum.

Maybe when people see their pictures gone they get flummoxed and never post another picture. They just stay here and talk about it for the next five years telling everybody they have to shoot raw.

I think the right place would be the critique section, but hardly anyone posts there: I think they are afraid of what people will say to them!

Your reply made me laugh.

It would be nice if the "rules" were more apparent as I've done the same thing!

You mean you all just don't scan Newest Topics and Watched Topics every day?

It isn’t only pictures. No matter there are appropriate sections for nearly every subject from astronomical to wedding photography, those and about everything in between get posted here nearly every day. With little oversight, main discussion has become one great dumping ground.

I did that once when I first joined, once. You'd think I committed a felony. Some people are really, really thin skinned and very possessive of something that basically open to the general public and cost them nothing. I think I may have been blocked for that even though I apologized; oh well...
