I'm looking at getting the new Nikon 10-20 zoom for my d7200. On their website under compatible cameras they list the D7200 as partially compatible but they don't say what it won't do on this camera. Can anyone help me out. I tried it at Best Buy and it seemed to do everything alright, they didn't know what I was talking about. Thanks for any answers.
Jcate the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens has the latest iteration of auto-focus that being a "Pulse Stepping Motor" AF system. As such you'll need to upgrade your D7200 firmware to take full advantage of same...
D7200 Firmware C:Ver.1.02 released on 2017/03/07
Distortion Control Data Ver.2.016 released on 2017/09/08
Here is the link to Nikon's Product Support page to download your camera's firmware
http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/197/D7200.htmlbtw, I have the AF-P 18-55mm and the AF-P 70-300mm Nikkors and they both work quite well on my D7200...
Hope this helps...
I wish you well on your journey Jcate
I found this on Nikons web site...."We have fixed the issue that sometimes rendered the Auto distortion control option in the camera menus unavailable when distortion control data version L2.013 was used with the D7200."
This is the only issue that I found that was a little goofy.
As far as Best Buy... I would trust any information from a person that works there. I was told that I needed vista Memory instead of the PNY memory I had in hand to make my computer work. Really!!!!!!!!
.... and may the clicks be with you
I would suspect that Nikon has already updated firmware on brand new D7200s. The D7200 is still in production.
jcate, FYI, I have a Tamron 10 to 24mm lens - f/3.5- 4.5 Di II VC HLD - which has produced very satisfactory results on my Canon 60D and T5i cameras.
The only issue with the DX AF-P lenses on D7100 and D7200 is the auto distortion control option. All three are, for the money, fast focusing, amazingly sharp lenses, with excellent VR.
The AF-P lenses will work fine on your D7200. However, these lenses do not have an on/off switch for the VR. Fully compatible cameras allow you to turn VR off through a menu item which might only be available in a recent firmware upgrade. For the D7200, you can not turn off the VR and there is no firmware upgrade with that capability. You have to leave VR on at all times.
