Was shooting video only today but I always snap a few pictures for DVD covers and such ....
Had a Canon 70D in my hand for video with a kit lens ........ shot in jpeg
24mm, 1/30, f/9, ISO-125
I love that this is in dappled light, which everyone says is a no-no, but it works to your advantage. The sunlight on her shoulder and chest really gives contour and depth, while turning her face away from the sun keeps the lighting soft and consistent.
Showed it to my wife with no guidance. She loves it. Same comments as jdubu almost word for word.
I dont like speckle on my targets. Would never even considered setting that location up for a photo.
Hence photography = Art....no rules.
:-)
Oh...and great job at 1/30. Sharp.
Steady hands :-)

Yes I usually don't do dambled lighting but this is where the bride was standing ... just asked her to look away from the sun.
At another time I only had my GoPro on a gimbal. The bride sat down for a moment where the cocktail hour was done so she could catch her breath. No photographer around but the setup was there. Programmed the GoPro for a photo, had the bride lay on the couch and snap ........
Completely auto jpeg from a GoPro Hero 5 ... nothing fancy but it caught the moment.

Interesting PP. Did you cut and paste her and the couch into this background?
Looks like a combo hand drawn lasso around the bride and auto-outline on the couch....with some brush blur into the background...
Always interested in technique of PP. I spend 95% of my time in LR and when I go into PS, it is usually associated with youtube video to help get done what I need.

Beercat I really like the first shot, she is pretty and the shot has a good feel to it.

Just LR .... no paste work in PS, yes a bit of blur
Ah ok.
That makes sense as the GoPro camera will probably render the entire scene in focus and blurring the background can seperate the subject from the background.
Its always a challeng in LR since you cant lasso the subject and you need to use those round brushes and get as close as you can.

Yes on the blur ... separation. 99% of PP I do in LR ... when it really sucks I'll hand the picture to my BH and let here do magic in PS, she is the master of that domain.

I had a family shoot in a town about an hour away from my house. "Mom" picked every location. EVERY stinking one had dappled light all over their faces. If I turned them around, I ended up with streets, or parked cars behind them.
For those that dare try this (I had no other choice, dappled is one thing, but on their faces is just unacceptable) I actually completely underexposed for the background. I basically made the whole scene black, and then lit the subjects, and even some of the background with the flashes. It made for a moody light, but I think it worked. I may feel differently when I download. Looked good on the tiny little review screen. I just can't edit the same day I shoot. It's all about "fresh eyes" with me.
If they turn out, I'll start a new thread, not to step on Jerry's toes and post my images on his thread.
As for this, because the dappled light is not on her face, I would keep it. (not that it's up to me...lol)

Ah no big deal, I put a picture up on I think one of Jay's threads ....... not to compete but to suggest, no big deal to me.
Sad part is if they pick the location your still on the hook as to how they come out. I would suggest you say OK to the mom's places but add you would like to pick a few out on your own, that way if mom's suggestions are a bust and you have your picks that are solid your off the hook.

Really about the only way to overpower the sun. If you had an assistant or a helpful family member hold a large diffuser off camera, could be another option.

It would have helped if I had been to the area before. If I had, the same shots would have been wonderful with backlight, if we shot them in the morning instead of the evening.
I did find one nice place as we were walking to another, that had a really nice fallen tree branch.
I also got a photo of the 3 young adult kids standing around looking at their cell phones, while Mom and Dad posed for the photo. Mom LOVED it. She said I had "captured them perfectly" (couldn't see their faces, as usual) HAHA

Great shots, in the first, I would also have shot with the flowers pointing down, so as to draw your view to her face, right now its drawn tothe flowers. The second I like as you begin to see the detail in the dress.
