Cindy,
Just so you know, MT Shooter is one of our better liked and knowledgeable dealers on this site, If Nikon makes it, he has it.

That is a great set. I just need to add the D850 to mine.

Why do you have your tripod mound set to that awkward/unusable position?

So it sits flat at the same height as the other bodies.

Any particular reason why you keeping the D800E over the D810?

I have never been impressed with the D810, my D800E always took sharper pictures. The difference in the way the cameras apply their anti-aliasing is the only difference there I can attribute to the difference in my end images from both. And I do not do video so that was never a consideration. Thirdly, the D810 has much fewer shots on it and I will get more out of it than I will the D800E, the choice of which to keep is easy for me.

This might be a silly question but from a newbie...I would like to understand a little better. I just got my first dslr - a Nikon D5300 and just learning everything about it. Plus I am starting to aquire better glass instead of just the kit lens that came with it - but as far as purchasing another camera body....why do you do that? I see a lot of people here have various camera bodies...so just curious as to why.

Cindy

Not only for redundancy in case something goes wrong with one, but also to avoid having to constantly change lenses, so the camera is ready to shoot immediately.

Back in the film days, multiple bodies were also used for different films (B/W & color, ISO low and high, slide vs print, etc.), and also to avoid having to change rolls during active shooting.

Pro photographers certainly get a workout with all that gear!

Even I, a genuine amateur, kept my backup camera loaded with B/W; if my primary failed, I always could have wound the B/W film back into its can, but in the meantime I had it available if I did want to use B/W.

Yes, I actually use the Tamron "trinity" (15-30 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 G2, 70-200 f2.8 G2), but the Nikon holy trinity are used lenses I have available for rental. The bodies are my personal units.
I have to work so no real opportunity to shoot with it yet, but I have tuned all my lenses to it and will be headed up to the Missouri Breaks to shoot the elk rut this coming Sunday, will put it through its paces then for sure.

Good luck on your trip. We'll be *very* interested to hear about it.

Sorry to say the photo belongs in the gallery section... here if you had a discussion of virtues in the topic, perhaps in general section. In gallery would have been commented on based on background, and truncated left side of camera.

Your last sentence is correct - posted in the Gallery, the image would be viewed as a picture which happened to have contents, and any discussion would be how the contents were presented. Here, the image is viewed as being the contents, and discussion is about the nature, value, etc of the contents. This is the appropriate venue.

And that is EXACTLY why ADMIN chose not to move it to the gallery.

Incidentally, recently I posted an image as part of starting a thread; the image was very bland, but I thought the subject was interesting.

If you wanted to state a Nikon holy Trinity of camera bodies; they would be the D5, D850 and D500. This represents their top tier of camera bodies; all developed for a different purpose.
