I presume the trigger for the happy family portrait was the arrival of the new D850.

Aren't you going to give us your thoughts about it??? We're anxious to hear about it.

(BTW, I thought *your* trinity consisted of a Tamron 15-30 and 24-70 G2.)

Yes, I actually use the Tamron "trinity" (15-30 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 G2, 70-200 f2.8 G2), but the Nikon holy trinity are used lenses I have available for rental. The bodies are my personal units.
I have to work so no real opportunity to shoot with it yet, but I have tuned all my lenses to it and will be headed up to the Missouri Breaks to shoot the elk rut this coming Sunday, will put it through its paces then for sure.

Actually shot with a Nikon Coolpix A, my standard pocket camera.

I have a Nikon Coolpix A too. A great pocket camera and it shoots RAW!

Great sensor, great features, great size, great lens, VERY under rated camera. I only wish it's lens was just a bit longer sometimes is my only complaint.
If it had interchangeable lenses it would be the perfect mirrorless camera.

I don't know of any amateur, including myself, who does not own at least 2 cameras. I own a DSLR, Nikon Bridge camera, and a Sony pocket camera. I didn't have to break the bank to own them either.

I don't understand your point here.
All current Canon bodies can use the same lenses.
All current Pentax bodies can use the same lenses.
etc.

I'm lusting after that D850! Looking at reviews and saw one that said it was the first "do it all" camera that would actually do it all well and shine in each case. He called it a perfect tool for someone on a budget who does medium format kind of work. Still to much for me at this juncture lol!

Go for it. You only live once. Oh don't ask your wife for permission. It's simpler to get forgiveness. LOL

Nikons Holy trinity of lenses on Nikons holy trinity of bodies!

Maybe not, but it looks good anyway! LOL

AFS 70-200mm F2.8 VRII on D800E
AFS 14-24mm F2.8 on D810
AFS 24-70mm F2.8 on D850

Question from a canon boy the D810 is in the middle I think. The body seems smaller then the other 2 or is it just further back

Of course none of the HEAVY TRINITY comes close to the IQ demands of the 850. But, as a camera salesman, you got to move the inventory, right. Tell me, in order to move the HEAVY trinity about, do you recommend a golf cart? Or, do you just leave the lenses on the shelve and take along a pocket P&S?

Why do you have your tripod mound set to that awkward/unusable position?

Any particular reason why you keeping the D800E over the D810?
