You guys are blowin' smoke in the wind. She hasn't responded and probably won't, so yap it up fellas.

Actually it was a very pleasant exchange. A good question was followed by a number of helpful replies, to which she responded with a long, thoughtful note of thanks.

Wow!!! Thanks so much for all of the responses!!! So thorough too. I guess I should have given a little more info. I'm learning. Lol...I have not used my Canon t3i a lot. When I bought it I got the original 2 kit lenses, I have used it on and off for the last several years. Nothing very steady. I am now wanting to do landscapes and wildlife, also some stock photography. I am planning to start traveling a lot around the US (National Parks) and some internationally as well. So, I'm hoping to become a free lance photographer... high hopes, huh?!

Thanks again to everyone for all the suggestions and recommendations. I will definitely look at refurbished and used on the sites that were mentioned. I don't have a set budget, but hoping to keep it below $1000.
Yes, I'm thinking about a pentaprism, I like a lot of the new features on some of the newer models....

I'll let you all know what I decide. Thanks again.

I'll make one more suggestion. I agree with most others about investing in other equipment (lenses, a decent tripod, etc.) rather than upgrading your camera. If you want to consider other brands or formats (such as mirror less) now is definitely the time to do so. There are many good choices.

The T3i is a good camera, but if you really do want to upgrade within the Canon system a refurbished EOS 80D would be a good choice within your budget. Mainly because of the much improved AF technology. Something like this is worth considering: http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-80d-ef-s-18-135mm-f-3-5-5-6-is-usm-kit-refurbished

Teresa,
I still use a T1. Don't laugh. I used to own a photo studio in Kansas. Not that it matters much. If you have Canon lenses you could move up to a Eos 5. Maybe not the newest one. Or, a newer midrange Canon. I don't use all the automated settings. Mostly all manual except for autofocus. I'm an old fudy duddy.
Use what works for you. Pentax has an advantage, you could use almost any lens Pentax ever made. Nikon makes excellent equipment as does Olympus.
Finally, maybe a EOS 1 would stretch your budget too far unless you find a older well taken care of used camera. But they are bulky, heavy (by today's standards) but very professional.

Pentax has an advantage of having in-body stabilization, as do many mirror less systems. Canon has an advantage that it can use many other brand lenses with a simple adapter. Except for older Canon ( pre 1987 EF ) lenses of course!

Pentax changed their mount from a 42mm X 1 screw mount to a bayonet mount back in 1975. thus the older lenses will require an adapter in order to work with their digital cameras. Pentax has since been sold to Ricoh in 2011. Here is a link to Pentax lens interchangeability...

On Pentax you can use all k-mount lenses (all brands but take care with Ricoh k-mount, some of them is not compatible) and m42 lenses from all brands. And every lens will have shake reduction, even the oldest m42-lenses. I have about 80 lenses that works fine on my Pentax K3.

The adapter is a trivial ring. When Pentax created the K-mount back in 1975, they kept the same flange distance and specifically designed the K-mount to make adapting M42 lenses trivial

The KP was then released several months later. This is fake news.

PetaPixel is a pretty well-respected website. As for the KP being released several months later, most cameras are in the development stages for a lot longer than that.. That said, except for online websites, most stores don't stock Pentax gear....Not knocking the brand, it's just not one of the top players anymore.

That all depends on how you define "top player". For some time now, Pentax cameras have out-performed Canikon cameras at the same price level. However, they did allow their U.S. distribution channels to slide to virtually nothing.

Again, I want to thank everyone for the very detailed responses. Please rest assured that I am reading each and everyone. Please don't be upset with me if I am not responding to each and everyone. Being a newbie, I'm still learning how all this works. Without that said, what is expected? Should I be responding or acknowledging each one?

I am still digesting all the wonderful info that everyone is providing. You all have a wealth of knowledge and I am anxious to learn. I hope to be in the position someday to be able to respond to those asking for info. Very appreciative of all the time and effort everyone has give me.
