When shooting with my d7100, I shoot in RAW. I purchased a Lumix DC-ZS70 and set it for RAW and LR couldn't read the file. I asked a friend who has one and she said to set it to RAW +jpeg. I did and it still is not recognized in LR, although it did load in my Photos file. Any ideas? I thought shooting in both just created a duplicate file. What setting do you normally use?

Are you using a stand alone version of Lightroom? If so, it may be that the version you are using does not recognize the raw file from your Lumix camera. As cameras are developed, the raw files are not recognized by older versions of post processing programs. If you are using the CC version of Lightroom, you may need to upgrade or contact Adobe.

According to Adobe,
https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

You need Lightroom version 6.10.1 or higher.

I have Lightroom 5.7.1 and it does not recognize Panasonic RW2 files. So go to the Adobe website and download the DNG(Digital Negative) converter so that your RW2 files can be converted to the non proprietary DNG files. After that you should have no problems with Lightroom. Interestingly I can directly import my Olympus ORF files to Lightroom.

Your software must be updated in order to read newer cameras as they come out. Update your software and then see what happens.

You can download the DNG converter here. Did that with my Panasonic Lumix RW2 files and now I can process the Panasonic RAW files in lightroom.

near as i can tell 9.10.1 of adobe camera raw released in May 2017 added support for the Lumix DC-ZS70 raw files. Unfortunately Lightroom 5.7 will not get this version of adobe camera raw.

The standalone raw converter from adobe will produce a compatible dng version.

If your normal work flow is to import as dng, while you will need to convert and then import to lightroom, the import stage will be faster because you will not be converting as you import, so a little slower than converting directly in lightroom.

Having the camera create a jpeg in camera as well as raw has no effect on the import process.

I'm using the CC version of LR and Photoshop. I thought they were supposed to update automatically.

Lightroom 6.12? That's the latest.

CC should update with Lumix capability as soon as it's available. How about the software that came with the camera? That should open raw files.

Did you know RAW needs especial software to be edited? An editing program like Photoshop or Lightroom need periodic updates to accommodate new cameras.
When you are using RAW+JPEG your RAW file still needs especial software and if the editor has no update for your camera then tough luck. It is much better under those circumstances to shoot JPEG which is the universal file.

Raw is not an industry standard like tiff or jpg. Raw is brand specific so you either need software that recognizes that brands raw or a converter provided to convert that raw to tiff or png or some other industry standard.

It's more than brand specific, it's usually camera model specific. With the only real exception being camera's that shoot dng directly.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice! Raw, tiff, jpg, dng, etc. is all so over my head! I'm going to try the download suggested and if I still can't get it, I'm going to call Adobe. You guys are amazing. Thanks, again!

This is a very new camera. It is unlikely that Adobe has released an ACR camera profile update that includes it. They usually issue updates about once a calendar quarter or so. The last update to Camera Raw CC was around 35 days ago. If you have a stand-alone version of LR, you may be out of luck.

You can convert the raw files to DNG (Adobe has a free DNG converter program) and load the DNG files into Lightroom.

If your camera came with a disc, load the software on it and process the raw files through it. If no disc, look in the manual for a web link to software that will open and convert the files (to DNG or 16-bit TIFF or PSD).
