Wifi vs NFC

I often transfer images from my Canon G7XMarkII to my iPhone to text or e-mail. Was stymied when trying to send some eclipse photos. Camera found wifi but couldn't connect with phone. Many blogs with same complaint. Finally went to Camera Access Point, established network on phone. NFC works great anywhere without needing wifi. Camera manual should be improved with step-by-step iinstructions. Camera and phone need to be close but NFC works great and is faster.

NFC is spec'd for 4cm - a little over 1-1/2"

Were there a lot of other folks around? One of the big benefits of NFC is immunity to interference from other communication, whereas the wifi channels can pretty easily get overloaded if there is a crowd.

I am aware of the 4cm but i have been transferring images from my G7X Markii to my iPhone 5 at distances up to 18 inches with no difficulty. At home wifi worked great but if the wifi is poor or not available NFC is the answer for me.
