I' m wanting to purchase a new DSLR and we looking at a new in box Nikon D750. I look at the adds in the photography magazines and the prices differ as much as $600.00 for the same camera. One says I need to buy one from Nikon USA, and another states there is absolutely no difference in the models, all new from Japan. Can someone clear this up for me as I would like to save money like everyone else, but don't want to get stuck with "second" in terms of quality. All the camera's seem to have a warrantee - Please Advise, Bruce

It's not a quality issue; it's a warranty issue.

The ones purchased overseas are what as known as 'gray market' cameras.
They have NO US Warranty. If you buy one and it is defective in some way Nikon USA will not repair/replace it.
The usual advice is 'buy gray market equipment at your own risk'.

If you are in the U.S. you should probably buy from an authorized Nikon Dealer. The price includes a Nikon USA warranty. Otherwise you get an independent warranty from the seller or must send the camera out of the country for repair. In many cases, after the warranty, you may not find a repair facility to repair it.

Some people swear by grey market. I buy from B&H and get the U.S. support. With lenses the U.S. warranty is even more important. As long as you register the lens within 10 days the warranty is extended to 5 years.

You probably won't do much better than this for a new D750 body with full USA warranty, no sales tax, a few extras and free shipping. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1082599-REG/nikon_d750_dslr_camera_body.html

Nikon doesn't play nice with gray market imports. Avoid 42nd street photo.

Good luck.

These responses are all correct.
You should purchase your camera from a Nikon Authorized dealer. https://cdn-6.nikon-cdn.com/where-to-buy/nikon_img_auth_dealers.pdf

This still leaves a question on how you can tell if a camera is a US warranty model or not, you'll find that answer here; Nikon serial numbers.
http://www.dslrbodies.com/cameras/camera-articles/nikon-camera-serial-numbers.html

The more popular on line dealers are;
Cameta Camera - www.cameta.com/
B&H - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/
Berger Brothers - www.berger-bros.com

And I'm sure there are others, also.

You can buy grey market, and never have a problem, and so save a lot of money. You can, also, buy grey market, and have a problem needing repairs. When repairs are needed, the grey market item will have to be shipped back to Hong Kong, or wherever-at your expense-to get repairs under the non-US warranty that comes with the item. The cost of shipping the defective item back to grey market land for fixing, and then having it shipped back to you when fixed, will be paid by you, even if the repairs themselves are free under the foreign warranty...and the shipping will probably cost more than you saved by buying it. So...do you feel lucky? If so, buy grey. If not, forget grey.

With three recalls on the D750 shutterbox, buying grey market is more than just risky. I've heard that Nikon will repair grey market shutter boxes but I'd still consider the possible repercussions.

Buy from an authorized, Nikon USA dealer. It will come with a Nikon warranty. Otherwise, Nikon USA will not touch the camera for warranty or repair work. Also, selling it will present problems - if you're honest.

The Nikon D750 has been prone to shutter problems. With that being said if you but a NIKONUSA model you can get the camera repaired in the USA by NIKONUSA. If you buy a GRAY MARKET camera, that camera has a warranty from the country of origin. IE. If that gray market camera comes from France, then you will have to return it to FRANC NIKON to get it fixed. And that is the difference between Nikon USA and gray market cameras. They are the same camera, manufactured in the same plant, just imported from two different countries, if you do not buy NIKONUSA, you cannot get it fixed in the USA, but you can still get it fixed, you just have to send it to the country of import. Got it, good. Now, again, the Nikon D750 has many shutter issues, I would buy the Nikon D810, it has a much better track record.

I believe the international warranty is just that, international. It should be honored in any country other than the U.S.

Figure in the cost of shipping and insurance, and that could get costly. What country will do the repairs? If Nikon sent the camera to Sri Lanka, would you have to send it therefor warranty work? This is a gray area in every sense of the word.
