Was messing around taking photos of the sun with B+W 10 stop filter with a Nikon 28-70D lens mounted on a Nikon D3300.

Just don't plan on using this for the eclipse - it's not dark enough. The Marumi brand eclipse filter is a 16 stop filter

Don't do this!!!!

Camera filters only block out visible light. They don't do anything for the IR and UV and the rest. By the time you have focused your image, you could already have seriously damaged your retina. Since the retina has no pain receptors, you will not know anything about it until you wake up blind, or with permanent blind spots in your vision...

There have been about a thousand posts on here in the past months about shooting the eclipse, and many of us have tried to explain the dangers. Shooting when there is *no* eclipse is even worse!

Sheesh!

May be live view and your eyes may not suffer, but that doesn't mean your camera can't take the hit.

I have made two matching tin foil hats. One for me and one for the camera which should protect us from any harmful rays and light as well as any alien or CIA radio transmissions that may try to control us.

There are glasses that are approved by NASA that allows viewing the eclipse . However there are strict warnings and restrictions about their use . Viewing the sun through a telescope with these glasses will burn your retina and you won't know it while it's doing the burning ! Not sure what the restrictions are concerning a camera . But with all the dangers of blindness from viewing the sun , I'd recommend that you be EXTREMELY careful ! Good luck .
