doing a lot of hunting on-line, getting info, and checking out tour operators; anyone out here been to it? tips ? recommended tour operator ?
Check out this site, Images in Africa Safaris, <info@imagesinafricasafaris.com> I went to South Africa with Gavin last year and it was the best trip I've ever taken. I know he does the Migration some years but don't have his schedule. I highly recommend these folks. RMJ
Journeys Unforgettable! (journeysunforgettable.com) Did two photographic safaris with them. Highly professional - world class photographer and naturalist guides, private and luxurious. Best to call for info. Also Wilderness Safaris - they give much back to Africa in support of indigenous people and conservation efforts.
We have been to South Africa, Tanzania and Twice to Kenya. Going again to Kenya next year in July for 18 days. for next year we are using It Started in Africa. Web site:
www.itstartedinafticakenya.com. If you are planning to go to Kenya, then please try to visit (stay at least one night at) Giraffe Manor in Nairobi. You need to book your room here at least a year in advance. You will NEVER forget your experience there.
Thank You for the correction, rafikiphoto...........
Micato Safari, based in Kenya. Years of experience, but somewhat pricey. Family run.
18006422861. Also on the web. One of top East African safari companies
We have had great experiences with Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) in Africa. The Great Migration goes on for a long time and over a very long distance so be sure you focus on the part you want so you will be there at the right time. OAT specializes in small groups (never more than 16) and we never had more than five in a vehicle which gave us amplr room to shoot pictures. Great guides. Look at their website and itinerary to be sure they offer what you want.
PhotoSafaris, Joe VanOS.
Did migration with them.
Fantastic. An entire row for each photographer in the vehicle.
Able to shoot on either side with no interference from another photographer.
Went out twice daily for ten days.
My trip was in September and we saw tens of thousands of animals.
Subsequently have done several other tours with them and will do Falkland Island, South Georgia Island and Antarctica with
them in Nov/Dec of this year. PM me if you have specific questions.

I have been lucky enough to go to Africa three times. When I plan to go again, I will go with a tour operation specializing in Photographic Safaris, not just a regular tour operator. It does make a big difference.
