I just had a thought about sunlight damage to your camera sensor as it is strongly recommended to use a solar filter when photographing the solar eclipse. What about the times that you take photos with the sun visible or silhouettes with the sun as a background? Or is more a matter of the size of the image and/or the length of time your camera is pointed at the sun?

I use a mirrorless camera and a few ND 3.0 filters. No sensor damage yet from photographing sunspots. However, if you have a DSLR and are using an OVF, you should use a real solar filter since your eyeball is looking directly at the sun.
Yes, good to be smart about not exposing the sensor directly to full sun at a wide aperture and I have heard of damage being done.

Right. And camera manuals warn about that. I'd never fill the frame with the sun, but having a bit of it off to the side is okay. Too much sun in the frame would probably ruin the shot.
