A film taken from a streetcar traveling down Market Street in San Francisco in 1906, a few days before the earthquake/fire destroyed the area.

Great video footage. I wonder how bad it was before restoration? SF had another earthquake in 1989, which also shook up Oakland. Thanks for sharing.

It's so much better when it's clean and shown at the correct speed.

Loma Prieta. I lived in Vallejo, CA at the time, about 30 miles from SF. I just got home from work and turned on the 5 o'clock news when it struck a few minutes after 5. For me, it felt like an ocean wave rolling through. At the time I thought, "that had to have done some damage". I looked at the TV and the two anchors were just sitting there staring at each other. After about 30 seconds the TV went blank. Checked other stations and they were all out. The EQ damaged Sutro tower which all the SF stations broadcast from. It was several days before the TV was restored.

Id it's the earthquake I think you are talking about, I was in the middle of Vallejo waiting for a light to change when my car started bouncing around.

Correct. I was responding to mas24's comment about the 1989 earthquake that shook Oakland. It was the Loma Prieta earthquake. Part of the Oakland Bay Bridge collapsed causing them to replace the eastern section of the bridge. The elevated freeway through Oakland collapsed, also. 63 people died, about $6 billion in damage.
