An amateur photographer was invited to dinner with friends and took along a few pictures to show the hostess. She looked at the photos and commented, “These are very good! You must have a good camera.”
He didn’t make any comment, but, as he was leaving to go home he said, “That was a really delicious meal! You must have some very good pots.”

I'm going to remember that response. Some people who are not photographers seem to think that the brain behind the camera has nothing to do with good photos. Anyone without experience can do it. Just point and shoot, and, voila, photos good enough to hang on the wall.

If the photographs are good and the meal is delicious then they both bave good tools. Good photographers and good cooks generally have good equipment.

Sorry, but that post has appeared here more times than I care to think about. Nice though.

Ha! Exactly. Sorta like telling the winning football team they must have great uniforms.

Too many photographers seem to think the same thing. 😜😜

But don't good photographers tend to have good equipment?

Nike uses the Oregon University Ducks football team as the testers for new uniforms. Works for them.

I'd say semi-pro, pro and serious enthusiasts have good cameras when they can afford them. There are a lot of good photographers (who do not know they are good) who use cell phones for cameras.

There are always exceptions but statistically the majority of good photographers own good cameras. When you see a good photograph the chance that it was taken with a good camera is much higher than it was taken with a bad camera. Same thing goes for cooks. If one is a good cook that because cooking is important to him/her and thus one tends to buy good stove. So when someone shows me a good photograph and if I say "you have good camera" good chance that I am right that the person does have good camera.

Dean was posting an analogous "joke". Some may have missed it?

I have pretty good (camera) equipment; still working on the first part.

I often feel about my camera the same as I do about "smart" phones... It's is a lot smarter than its operator.

Too funny, when I heard it before it went. That was such a great meal you must have a great stove.
