This article in todays NewAtlas.com describes a solid state phased array optical processor that will eliminate optical glass lenses!
Check out the story at: http://newatlas.com/caltech-lensless-camera/50182/?utm_source=Gizmag+Subscribers&utm_campaign=3a78b02588-UA-2235360-4&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_65b67362bd-3a78b02588-90635613
How will we argue over f./ numbers and shutter speeds any longer if a tiny processor is doing all the thinking for us? How will this chip let us control depth of field? Can we dial in the bokeh we want? Lots to consider.
Will we be saying: "My chip has more Gigabytes than your chip"? Or "My phased array can process a wider spectrum than yours"?
Only time will tell. I am interested in seeing how this thread will evolve.

When I was young, futurists talked about the day when we'd all fly helicopters to work. My last commuting automobile is in our garage {I am retired}
