Looks like the rule that you must register even your hobby drone has been overturned. http://dailysignal.com/2017/05/19/federal-drone-registry-declared-unlawful/
I don't have a drone (yet), but thought other Hogs might be interested.

I feel the same way, and IF I had a drone I would not fly it over residential areas.

However, drone photography can be a lot of fun (my son actually has a business and does high-end drone photography/ movies for movies and commercials).

Personally, I don't mind if drones fly over my house. I don't own the air space above it and there's certainly nothing embarrassing to see on my roof. Besides, low-flying helicopters are doing it all the time, and they are far louder and annoying than a drone could ever be.

I agree, but would place caveats on that stance. If a drone hovers over my back yard and my girlfriend is sunbathing, there might be a problem. I have found an arrow with a nerf type head; they don't go far and are harmless, but they can sure mess up a drone.

Just make sure you don't shoot or knock that Drone out of the sky. If its over your house and you shoot it ...The FAA will be knocking at your door with a big fine in hand. Its the same as shooting at an airplane. Small hobby and commercial drones do not have zoom cameras on them. I would worry more about that guy across the street with a zoom lens on his camera pointed at your second floor window. I have a drone and a FAA license to fly it. I have some drone shots on my web page if you are interested in taking a look.

Good guys and bad guys are using drones as well as other RC vehicles to outdo each other. Drones are being used in Queens NY to spot missing children by a civilian block watch group affiliated with the NYPD. They are currently seeking an exemption to fly above the 800' ceiling due to taller buildings.
Conversely, drug dealers are using drones and RC cars with cameras in attempts to sneak up on vehicles to see if cops are doing stake outs. It's seldom the technology that's the issue. It is how the technology is used. The same drone that seeks a missing child or tracks a burglar seeking to escape police by jumping fences can be the same one used as a peeping Tom, or spying on cops trying to protect our community, but it is very unlikely. The problem will always be you don't always know how to tell the difference.

I registered my drone the day I got it. No big deal. Now I won't have to pay the whopping $5.00 fee for another two years. I'm trying to learn how to fly the darn thing. The weather won't cooperate. I certainly wouldn't offend my neighbors by flying near their windows, or spy on an individual. I just thought it could be fun to fly around a lighthouse or over Lake Michigan area.

I have seen people doing all kinds of bad things with drones. The local newspaper flew theirs over the 4th of July parade two years ago. The local cops advised them to stop (that crash into crowd thing). Flying too high near an airport. Couldn't live if a plane went down because of me. So I am a responsible adult with a burning desire for more toys. By the way, I am a 68 year old women who received this from her totally cool husband for my birthday.
