Nice shots AzPicLady,i cant help with the i.d though i'm sorry.
These birds are limited to Western U.S. I don't think you'll see them in the UK., not even stragglers. They are interesting birds. They have a way of pretending an injury if the young ones are threatened. Google Kildeer sometime.

A killdeer. If you get to close to it's nest, it will act as if it has an injured wing and try to lead you in another direction.
Yep, it does that alright. Thanks.

Great pictures of a Killdeer.
That's what he looks like, alright. Thanks.
Not only a Killdeer, but doing the classic 'follow me, leave my babes alone' dance in #2. They hobble low to the ground when doing this, but still have 'long legs'. Oops, missed the other pages. Already done.

Definitely a killdeer protecting a nest which is always on the ground.
It was interesting to watch him (her?) sort of "wallow" in the dust while my bug buy was here. I'd sure like to find the nest.

Kildeer.....the second picture shows the distraction behavior that they display when you are close to their nest. They lure preditors away by faking a broken wing.
Thanks. It's interesting.
FYI, the 'nest' is at most, a slight scrape, usually not even this, the egg right on the gravel or sand.
I would like to get a picture like the one where the bird is trying to fake injury. I like that one

Kildeer! Listen to their call when alarmed. "Dee, Dee!" They stay on the ground, mostly.
I've never heard it say anything. Just runs a lot. I'd sure like to find the nest.
Killdeer. I see two black breast bands and the tail typical of a killdeer.

Thanks! Glad you like it.
I haven't seen him in a day. I hope I didn't scare him off!

I have a strange bird that has been living at my house for about a month. S/He looks like something that might better live in a pond or lake instead of in a desert location. Does anyone know what s/he is? THANKS!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KilldeerI got this on line and it shows the nesting and eggs and more info.
Kildeer. Your last photo shows the two black bands on the breast which cements the identification. They are in the Plover family and are very common throughout the US. They are found in fields and pastures and often far from water. The Chukar is a member of the Quail family and looking like a quail.
