Greetings, everyone! I'm a nearly retired medical technician/newbie photographer from Idaho Panhandle area, that's "north" Idaho, the Gem State. I've used a Canon Digital Elph for years for snapshots, and just got a Canon EOS Rebel T6 to play with lenses and more control of photos. I picked 3 lenses to start with, 50 mm, 18-55 mm and 75-300 mm. Already had a tripod (I used for a video camera).
I love landscapes, wildlife (and we have a lot of that--bears, moose, elk, deer, coyotes, wolves, cougars though rarely seen, foxes, a wealth of birds large and small including bald eagles often seen), and want to start taking more "old barn" photos. I'm also an artist, so it will be fun to have my own photos as reference material for paintings.
Later this month, I'm taking RV and a couple dog friends along, down to S. Idaho, then west across Central Oregon (John Day Fossil Beds, Painted Hills, etc.), to Oregon Coast for a photographic journey, returning home to N. Idaho via further northern route crossing thru E. Washington state. In short, that's a photographer's dream drive with lots of interesting scenery. Only thing better would be if I had time to make a loop up thru Glacier Park this time, but that is another trek.
Next month I hope to have trip photos to share.
Check out the Nampa/Boise Valley beauty abounds farms & Orchards.

I have family in Boise, visit there often. It's a beautiful city, lots of trees. You're right!! The drive on the way down is interesting too. Whitebird area, Riggins canyons and river, rolling prairies thru Grangeville. It's a diverse state geographically, lots of wide open spaces and impressive skies to photograph.
Welcome to UHH! My wife is from the Twin falls area. Be sure to check Shoshone Falls when you head south.
Thank you, will do! You're in New Mexico? Nice. Never have visited there but it's on my bucket list. Would love to see Ghost Ranch area where O'Keeffe lived her final years.

This is where we were when I retired from the Air Force so decided to stay. There are a lot of great places to photograph here!

I hear that, would be a great journey for photographers. You've got architecture there that's so unique, too. Nothing we have in in N. Idaho for sure.
Welcome Jan sounds like a wonderful trip have fun can't wait to see pics

Hi janIDAHO,
Welcome to UHH, and as a new north Idaho photographer. As you well know, you can head out in any direction and find great subject material. If you need some deer to photograph, you can take a few out of my front yard. My wife and I are both life ling resident of Coeur d'Alene, and have been out there taking photos for well over 50 years. The equipment you selected look like a great place to start. I look forward to seeing you out there trying to find the perfect shot.

Thanks!! Yes, you live in a beautiful part of Idaho. You could fill a book w/the "moods" of Lake Cd'A, couldn't you? I appreciate the welcome.
