Canon SX60 or Wait till SX70?

I am in my seventies and am an avid birdwatcher from my desk as well as traveller. (Several bird feeders) I also want better photos of wildlife in my Maine field than an iphone 6 gives.
Do not want the weight of a DSLR, but a better telephoto than a pocket camera. Have always used Canon so not sure I want to learn a new system.
Should I go with the Canon SX60, wait until the mythical SX70 appears, or be brave and try another brand? I do not want a camera heavier that the SX60.

Carpe diem! Take the SX60 and enjoy! (I speak from the wisdom(?) of someone in her seventies who recently got hit out of the clear blue sky with an incurable cancer diagnosis--a few months if I am lucky)

I read an article last year that Canon was not interested in releasing a successor to the SX60 because it could not improve on what it already offered. And there was expected competition from Sony, Nikon and Panasonic Bridge Cameras. I don't know if Canon has decided to go to a SX70, and if so how many bells and whistles will it have over the SX60? I would get the SX60.

What would you have improved in the SX70? I have a SX60HS and cannot image it needing any more than perhaps an internal GPS tracking device and Bluetooth. (it does have NFC and WiFi.) If those two things are not that important, the camera has everything one could ask for.

We all get unexpected bad news in our lives. These are the most devastating though. Make everyday count for the rest of life with your family.

I wouldn't wait, I get a SX50 (it's a better camera), who knows, the SX 70 may never happen!

I would go with sx50. I have used one for years. Tried others and always come back to SX50

I have two... see the link she feels SX50 is the better camera and uses the SX50 for birding vs DSLR

And yes, life if fragile and can terminate quickly... or worse linger with disability and an SX70 you finally get and can not use.

For those of us who got a D- in Latin from a bitty who shaved her beard each morning...
"'Carpe diem' is usually translated from the Latin as 'seize the day'. However, the more pedantic of Latin scholars may very well seize you by the throat if you suggest that translation. 'Carpe' translates literally as 'pluck', with particular reference to the picking of fruit, so a more accurate rendition is 'enjoy the day, pluck the day when it is ripe'. The extended version of the phrase 'carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero' translates as 'pluck the day, trusting as little as possible in the future'. "

Cape Codder we should all take your advice.

You know, Kay, when it comes to camera's there is, and always will be, something possibly on the horizon that will be better?
Doesn't really matter which MFG you are looking at! Buy your SX60 and enjoy your camera and use it in good health!! Never look back!

In what way is the SX50HS a better camera than the SX60HS? The only advantage the 50 has over the 60 is weight.

I have 2 SX50's, their great bridge cameras used by many here on the UHH. UHH users and WEB articles choose the SX50 over the SX60. As ft's betterar as future cameras on the horizon I'd forget it. I don't care what you buy as soon as you buy it sometning will come out that's better.

What about the Nikon P900? I have used Canon SLRs and DSLRs for years but the P900 looks interesting.
