If....If, the weather prognosticators are close - I will have clear skies (2% to 10% clouds) from Saturday night through next Thursday. Also - with the exception of a Sports Banquet I have to photograph on Thursday that should be over by 9:00 - perfect time to head out and beam up......I am done taking Sports Photos until early August - when I begin my sports year taking the Carolina Panthers headshots. So mosquitos, 80 degrees nights, and rich heavy humidity - I am fearless.
I am still waiting on my January ordered AT65EDQ Telescope - ordered at Astronomics. They told me last months - two weeks. I talked with them yesterday and they said that AT was putting the logos on the scopes and they would be air-shipped - so 1 to 2 weeks....crazy!
To all the moms on this board - have a great Mother's Day - and my advice to Mom's and Dad's, be sure to be kind to your richest kid with the best back yard for building an observatory, as you may have to move in one day :)

I donno about yours, but ours live in Multi-million dollar homes out here.

Just read up on the AT65EDO scope. Looks like you should be able to do some nice wider field imaging. 420mm at f6.5, but capable of handling a full frame body. I think that you must be thinking Nebula at this time! Have fun.

Yesserie! But I may be in my nineties by the time it actually arrives - at which time I might be thinking about getting a new batch of DEPENDS.

I wonder how it compares to just using my Tamron 150-600? I must admit that I haven't done much with it as an astro type lens, but here is a shot of Polaris I did without tracking, just to see how well it would image stars using my full frame Sony A99. This is at 600mm f6.7, ISO 1600 for 30 sec. Polaris is a bit blown out, but the dimmer stars look OK. No sign of the dreaded coma distortion, no CA distortion and no discernible astigmatism. Makes we want to more fully experiment with this lens.

I have yet to find any camera lens, prime or zoom, that performs as well as a dedicated APO scope. Maybe some of the new primes are up to the task but I doubt a zoom with its many compromises is going to be a top performer. Although the 24-600mm zoom on the RX10 III is almost making me a believer.
Maybe the latest Tamron 150-600, G2, has found the magic formula?

Well, could have been.
But actually, a G2 makes mine now obsolete.

I took this image three years ago when I first got started "up" imaging. I really don't think I can do any better using any of my telescopes - and though I do believe the AT65EDQ is going to be a close wide field competitor I will just have to wait and see.

I sat on a waiting list for a while, and got a curt reply to my 1 inquiry as to where I was on their list after 1 1/2 months. Rude. And very bad for them.
And not something I have any patience for.
So I went rooting around and found one (1) at a chain of 3 local photography stores near me. (They had 1 Nikon, and 1 Canon)
I slapped down my online order at 6 AM. Then checked by phone at 9 AM. Yep, it was mine!
Point being, maybe one is setting on a shelf nearby?
It looks like one heck of a nice telescope.
