Hello I'm Jack from Omaha. I have owned two 35mm in the past and loved using them. That said I've generally just used my iphone for the last 7yrs. I am now looking to get a DLSR and have an OK budget. I have 2 15yr old boys not twins and they are very active in sports and extremely athletic both are freshmen soon to be Sophomores. My one son has been told he will be on varsity football team. The other has been told he is going to be on varsity tenis team. they also play baseball and other sports. Obviously I am a proud father and want to keep great memories of my boys sports. I am looking at either a Nikon D7200 or a Canon 80D. I like both a lot. I like to take photos and video of not only my boys but nature and generally artistic things. I am open to suggestions. I have looked at both throughly and have mixed feelings about both.
I can only speak to the D7100. I love mine and use it for all sorts of photography, especially birds in flight which is a lot like taking sports photos. I think if you choose that camera you will be quite satisfied once you pair it with the correct lenses for what you shoot.
Thanks for the input I looked at D7100 and loved it. I liked that i got just a little more with the 7200. that being said how is the infield operation of the menus etc. or how easy is it to learn.

I spend time shooting my 8 year old grandson playing ice hockey. My best camera for that function is a Canon 7D Mark II. I would go to the Canon Refurbished Site and see if they have any refurbished cameras for sale. Good luck.

Hello Jack, welcome to UHH.

Welcome to the Hog Jack, enjoy.
Welcome! Looking forward to your posts and pictures. Happy shooting!
Welcome to UHH Jack, glad you joined us. I shoot with a Nikon D7100. I agree with you that the D7200 is a better choice if only for the larger buffer. If budget permits I would strongly suggest you look at the D500. Seems like you are going to be shooting a lot of sports and the D500 would be an ideal choice. To save a few $$$ look at a refurbished D500. Only search refurbished from a reputable firm such as Nikon, Adorama, B&H or Cameta. I saw one about 3 weeks ago for $1,650.00, body only. I think Cameta had it.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.
