Since the clouds and foreground both have leading lines toward the building, I think centered works well with this image.

I took the liberty of cropping the image. I think the sky was more interesting, so I cropped to show more sky.

I think it's just grand fully centered as it is. it's perfectly balanced, it has subtle but visible leading lines in the earth and the sky leading right to the structure, there is a wonderful sense of depth plus dramatic contrast. A very appealing image to me, and one that demands its centered position. Move it to the side and it loses that power.

With my going darting directly to it where else would it go? I think it is perfectly placed and leaves enough room to explore otherwise. Love it! S-

I think epic stark waste land such as Roland the gunslinger might see. The in-your-face view works wonderfully for this subject. ejrmaine's crop is more comfortable and does better to draw the eye in to explore wanting to see over the ridge, but for this subject I prefer the original for it's iconic loneliness and starkness. Cold, windswept, rough, harsh.

Lonely, stark, cold, windswept, rough, harsh. If it says all of those things to you, Piet, then I see the picture as a success.

Can you "splain" what there is to explore in this?

I'm guessing that centering was your idea from the outset, and I think it works really well with this shot. Everything leads right to the shack and you centered the horizon as well. It is a bold statement and a good example of when to throw out the rule book.

Graham with undoubtedly the best "eye" possibly on the Hog did you really need to ask? You took the image envisaging exactly how you would present it and knowing full well what you wanted it to convey so how can us mere amateur snappers offer you meaningful words of wisdom. You never post unless you believe it to be correct and more than 99.9% of the time your right as you with this image.
For discussion purposes you could of course join in the latest craze and slap a nice heavy coat of texture on top of it using a roller?

I love the image and I think it works just as it stands. The only thing I may have done differently is I would have taken out those three columns (chimneys?) on the horizon to the left. They lead one to believe it is not quite as remote or desolate as it appears. Regardless, it is beautiful and haunting. Very Nice!

I can't believe this is anything but a joke, so
hope it isn't serious.

The centered position is terrific in this powerful photo. Love it!
