Me, too. And I ws glad to see the big list of negatives in one review. Nothing is perfect. After all, Sony will have to introduce the a9 II in six months.

They are targeting a different market than the pro D5/1DXII shooters - mirrorless is still a tough sell for pros - just witness any sporting event. It might be good for wedding pros though where a silent full frame might be handy. I am not a pro, but a serious enthusiast. Even if I had Bloomberg's bank account I would probably not buy it - a D810 would be more my style.

The are targeting EXACTLY pro photojournalists and sports shooters; the very people likely to buy and use those flagship DSLRs from canikon. The A9 is spec'ed to compete against them and priced to beat them in that competition.

Mirrorless is NOT a tough sell for pros. Plenty of pros use them as witnessed by Sony sales over the last 3 years and keep watching those sporting events. You WILL see more and more cream mixed in with those black and white lenses.

I guess I was thinking of another video on You-Tube ($1K camera vs $8K camera) about Canon models...just verified it now...and the 1Dx or whatever it was called uses C-fast cards (sp?) and said that a 128 GB card cost about $800.

Thing is, Sony introduced XQD cards over a year ago. They are ULTRA fast and dependable too. And also expensive... but the company didn't put them in either the new A99II OR the A9.

Weird... but cheaper for us, and it also allows us to continue to use our existing card stocks.

Looking between the lines this sounds like the death knell for Sony A-mount cameras and lenses. A-mount lenses can be used on E-mount cameras with an adapter but not the other way round, so it looks as though Sony is abandoning the A-mount. Think about all the pissing and moaning people on UHH still make about Canon's move to the EOS system and EF mount in 1987 - 30 years ago - a move that propelled Canon to a sustained market leadership position ahead of Nikon and all others. It will be interesting to to see how well Sony handles this transition.

If the A mount is dead no one told Sony, they recently introduced the A99II.

I'm suggesting that it may become the walking dead, a zombie format. Time will tell...

Well Bill, it took Sony 4 years to replace the A700 with the A77 and 4 more to replace the A77 with the A77II.

The A900 came 4 years before the A99, which was 4 years before the A99II.

If your weeks are 4 years long, then you are right about the A mounts.

E mounts on that scale would be replaced every few minutes though!!

Sony RX 100 series introductions got faster after the II version. Now they have 5 versions of that camera alone and they were coming about a year apart.Sony is introducing new mirrorless cameras faster than Nikon and Canon introduces there DSLR's.

An interesting point. Are you suggesting that is a good or a bad thing?

Sony also introducing a new 100-400mm G Master lens.

Sounds like Sony is making a SERIOUS play for market dominance.

Those that are brave enough to buy one may eventually tell us. We need someone from Missouri to step up to plate and tell us about it!

It has electronic shutter but still has the mechanical one. I hope some day Sony could develop a sensor that can operate purely electronic without its short coming.

I think you want a mechanical shutter of some sort to protect the sensor. Suppose you're just casually carrying the camera around and accidentally point it at the sun? The shutter can take it. The sensor?????????????

The A9 has 24 MP on a 24x36 sensor which is the same number of pixels on its APS-C sensor of the a6xxx line of mirrorless'. This means an A9 pixel covers a larger subject area. For its $4500 price wouldn't one expect a larger number of pixels. The camera has other whiz-bangs but all quality comes down to the sensor pixel count.

Yes, in this regard and others - including saving $1200 - the A99II looks very good indeed !

Any camera with live view that uses the sensor to send a live image to an EVF or LCD exposes the sensor to the sun if it is in the FOV. I have taken many sunsets with my Sony SLT without damaging the sensor. It is not full overhead sun, but I have also taken many shots with the sun peaking around a building, a church spire, or foliage and no damage.

Saw this, it does look like they are making a real camera now instead of toys.
