Joe, this is a nice shot. Are you open to discussing how to improve it?
Great detail and a very attractive little bird!

I have a backyard full of finches and sparrows. This is a nice shot but I want to point some things out to you. The focus seems to be on the branch and not the head. I use only center focus points and back-button focus to focus on the head or breast. The lighting is very good leading to nicely defined details and a little drama. The background, however, is a little distracting. The tree trunk blends into half the body and that plain sky, the other half. I know this is a grab shot and unfortunately, you have to take what you can. You might want to pay more attention to the background. In my case, I have two feeders and I shoot down from the second floor. I have a lot more time to shoot from a good angle but then the feeders spoil the shot.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comments. I shoot from a fixed point in a blind. Changing the back ground is not an option because birds move quickly and either I take the shot or miss it. Shooting birds on a feeder is like shooting fish in a barrel. Been there.
