Hello everybody!

I'm so excited to be telling you that my husband and I are going to be going to Quito for one week and then on a small boat in the Galapagos for two weeks! Two weeks touring the islands! AaaaaaAAAAH! So excited!

But lenses!!!???

I am trying to figure out what lenses I should take. I have the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera. I currently have the Olympus 40-150 f/2 zoom (80-300 equivalent). But what else?

Help me! Help me!

Super grateful for your helpful responses!

Thank you,

PhotoGrow

Hello everybody! br br I'm so excited to be tell... (show quote)

Well I don't know what other lenses you have, or if you intend to buy more. I would be looking at a wide angle zoom to complement what you have. Then buy another OMD so you don't have to swap them out when photo fever strikes.

I only own the one lens for this camera. I'm looking to invest in a couple more that would be suitable for a trip such as this.

Any ideas to narrow it down?

:-)

Create another post with OMD in the subject and you'll get a lot more suggestions from actual users. Clint, I am sure, will chime in. Good luck

Enjoy the Galapagos! It is wonderful. I have led at least 25 photo tours there. Be sure to get on the trails early and late in the day. don't have breakfast in the early morning or you will miss the best light. take at least a 24mm and up and long lenses are quite helpful. take at least a 500mm lens or equivalent focal length if you have a smaller sensor. Why the longer focal length? subjects are mostly unafraid of visitors, but usually you must stay on the trail. If your best red-footed booby is 30 yards in bush from the trail, that is the distance you must cover and you need focal length to do that.

It is easy, get the 12-40 mm lens and you are good to go ;) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1003635-REG/olympus_v314060bu000_m_zuiko_digital_ed.html

If it were me (and color me jealous)...I'd take the 40-150, perhaps an EMC-14 to extend it out to 210mm. Along with that I'd have either the 12-40 or 12-100 (I personally own the 12-40, and it's a stellar lens). Other than that perhaps a cheap rokinon 7.5 or the expensive 8mm f1.8 FE (for weather-sealing). I'd also bring along my 25mm f1.4, for evening shots.

Well, definitely the telephoto for wildlife... though you probably will find that most are pretty approachable and won't need any longer lens than what you've got.

I'd also want a wide angle, for scenic shots. I don't know the Olympus system well enough to advise, but whatever is equivalent to at least 20mm and maybe 16 or 17mm on full frame, at the wide end.

I also like to have a macro and possibly one or two fast primes handy (such as a mildly wide and short telephoto). Some macro lenses double nicely as short telephotos, if their focus performance is adequate and they have large enough aperture to blur down backgrounds at non-macro distances. If one of your zooms is particularly close focusing, a macro lens might not be necessary. I'd look for 1:3 or better magnification with a zoom, though.... many claim "macro" but really don't come anywhere close to it.

Sounds like a wonderful trip... I'm jealous! Be sure to post some of your images when you return.

You definitely need a longer zoom lens. I have the 70-300, and with the built-in digital converter, you have the equivalent of 1200mm. While much of the wildlife is close, there will be
many birds in flight that you would want to shoot. I also agree with a wide angle. I just purchased the 7-14 pro and love. But I also have a 7.5mm fisheye I bought for $99. If you don't
mind just a little distortion at the edges, it's a great lens, too.
