50 ft, 40 ton mother grey whale approaches our 18' boat. They are curious, gentle creatures. Everyone in our boat got to pet one, and their babies, more than a single time.
The Lagoon is full of mother whales this year getting their recently delivered babies ready for the long trip to Alaska waters.

This from a recent trip to see the whales of Scammons Lagoon, Guerrero Negro, Mexico.
(Second illustration shows relative size of these whales vs. a human)

Thanks, Shakey! It was a great trip, but I hope she doesn't want to got back: it's a 700 mile r/t, from Ensenada to the Lagoon in an old bus over sometimes potholed roads.

They are so massive, I wonder if they can tell when you touch one.

I would think so. They see you reach out your hand and touch them.
Their skin is relatively soft, sort of like a wet, yet firm, sponge.
Some of the ladies in the boat got to kiss a whale.
