When you buy a Lexmark ink cartridge, you don't own it. Lexmark has a lawsuit aimed at forbidding other companies to refill their cartridges - since they don't own them.

Well, my next printer certainly won't be a Lexmark.

John Deere has a similar non-ownership policy with farmers. Just because you paid $50,000 for that equipment, that doesn't grant you complete ownership. The software still belongs to JD. Farmers have been turning to Russian hackers to avoid dealing with JD.

I can understand the software, but not mechanical items. I wonder what repairs would be needed that would involve working with the software, unless it is reading a status from a communications port.

Exactly why I have quit using Adobe. If I'm just renting the software, my future is subject to their whim. Affinity Photo, Corel, and many other will sell you the product. And Affinity is actually better than PS for most work.

I've found that renting Photoshop from Adobe to be actually cheaper by the year than having to purchase their upgrades.

They do upgrade the software periodically.

For LR6, the periodic updates are free, but there's no upgrade to CS7 or LR7. Those days are gone forever.

Welcome to the way of the future. Corporations already have rights above and beyond people and it is only going to get worse. This is the plan of the globalists; to have total control of everything and we the little peons sitting on the sidelines waiting for them do to us as they please. We have no rights of any kind and the slightest peep of a complaint will probably result execution. So every time you support a globalist agenda, you are endorsing the end result.

HP controls whether or not you can use refilled cartridges also. Its hit and miss sometimes that a refilled cartridge will work or not. Depending on where you get refilled cartridges from, they may or may not work. I purchased some refilled cartridges from Staples. The black ones worked. One of the color cartridges did not work. I returned it to Staples and they gave me another one. The sales tech said that HP had put a code into their printer updates which gives users an error message saying the ink cartridge is not a compatible ink cartridge. I found this out a number of years ago when I was refilling my own cartridges (these were genuine HP when I bought them new) and they would no longer work after refilling them. I received an incompatible ink cartridge error message after I refilled them. At the time I did not know it was due to an HP update to the printer. Just another method for them to make profits by doing that and charging high prices for ink because they know you need ink to continue printing and you are going to buy it.
