I made a new friend today.

I have been hearing about an Eagles nest just a short drive from my home. Today I took a drive over there to see if I could find it. A saw a cluster of photographers with all their cameras converging on one point, high in tree of the other side of a small lake/pond (It's only about a foot deep!). I spotted one man with an impressive looking lens (500mm f/4 Canon). I introduced myself and found him to be very helpful. We exchanged names and he told about his Facebook page.

You can check it out here:

I'm making plans to go back to this spot many times with my big 600mm f/4 lens.

I remember your post awaiting your 600mm lens from Hong Kong. It looks like you are getting ready to have fun with it. I run into photographers too, some pro and amateurs at events. Some have great gear that I will never own. But it's nice to see who is using what, occasionally. Especially, being an amateur myself.

The guy I ran into yesterday gave me a huge print of an eagle that he printed himself. He told me how he went to a local store store to have a print made and when they saw it they refused to give it to him because it looked professional and they can not reproduce professional works. Is that nuts or what!

This guy is very generous. He was giving away 20 by 13 inch copies of his prints to strangers. He also freely shared his techniques. I'm sure I'll see more of him. I just arranged to meet at the lake with a different friend to take photos together. I worry about becoming the victim of a robber with so much expensive looking camera gear. Both my friend and I have CCW and cover each other. I joke that I protect my 600mm with a 10mm. I know that must sound strange to those of you in Europe and other places. I believe it has become common in the USA. We photographers can end up in isolated places with valuable goods.

Today I worked on extending the reach of my flash. I'm not sure it will be enough but I'll try.
