I am puzzled...

Many time I see question over aperture or speed settings.

My puzzling is simple: Is not the subject determining the settings instead of the 'optimal' exposure settings?

I personally set the aperture to obtain the subject dof I need and the speed for effect - if needed -. I rarely vary from the base ISO.

In some shooting conditions you have to take what you can get - and that may mean shooting well above base ISO.

Equally puzzled:
That's how I took film photos & how I now take digital images staying as close to 100ISO as possable -- Everything else is reviewed & adjusted during post processing

I had to call it quits tonight when my exposures, at ISO100, got above 30 seconds, at f16.
Having too much fun.

I assume you puzzled people always shoot in situations with plenty of light. I often find myself in situations where the aperture that will give me the DOF I want, and the speed necessary to to stop action or prevent camera motion, requires ISOs much higher than 100.

Not at all trolling for an argument --- It's all of course always based on the situation -- If you need to up the ISO do it --- But keeping it as close as you can to your camera's optimum is only common sense -- Then of course there are always tripods ---

This works better for stationary subjects in broad daylight ....

Tripods (and VR/IS) are no help with subject motion.

Give me a brake --- I use both for moving subjects --- Race cars & Air Shows

Ah...... The wisdom of a former film shooter, no doubt.

If the subject is an adult human, he might suggest settings, but I prefer to make my own choices. Like you, I leave ISO at the base setting. Then I decide about aperture or shutter.
