My Star Tech powered USB hub smoked itself a couple of weeks ago. It just died and got stinky. Never a good sign.
So I went back to my old port powered PITA hub. And the camera drop outs it brings.
It was covered by their 2 year warranty.
And they sent me a brand new one. Got it today. I thought they would simply refurbish mine.
Back in business!

It's a well kept secret, ALL motors and everything electrical, run's/operates on smoke. Once the smoke gets out, the motors (etc.) don't run/work anymore... Moral of the story is "Don't let the smoke get out! Of course sometimes that's easier said than done. Good luck on your new one!

So far so good. As I expected.
I really expected they would merely slip a new board in the substantial housing.
But an entire new unit is a treat.

I love mine too. I accidentally let the smoke out of mine by running the power wires to the backside instead of the front. They actually shipped me a new one even though it was 100% user error.
Startech is a top notch company, even though they do charge 10-20% more than the cheap copies.

I don't mind paying for Quality. And Star Tech is Quality.
