I wanted to say "thank you" in my intro to the Ugly Hedgehog users who provide so much advice. I've been receiving the Forum updates via email for around a year and have found the information invaluable in my photography journey. I peruse the new topics from the daily email updates for relevant information.
I have a website called RiverKeeper Flies (www.johnkreft.com) where I provide weekly content about fly fishing and fly tying incorporating photos in all my posts. A Pentax Option W30 was the camera I used until a year ago. I thought it did a great job because I wanted to have a waterproof camera on me at all times when I fly fished. It took good scenery, fish, macro and underwater shots.
A friend of mine who is a member encouraged me to utilize this resource to improve my photos. OK, he wasn't quite that blatant, but I got the message and was looking at ways to improve. Because of that, I purchased a used Nikon 5100 with the 18 - 70 kit lens as well as a Sigma Macro 50 mm f2.8 ex dg lens and used it for the last year. I recently purchased a Nikon D7100, Nikkor 35 mm f1.8g af-s dx lens, and sb700 flash. The other purchase a year ago was an Olympus TG4 to carry in my pocket while fly fishing. Lastly, I'm waiting for a "new to me" Nikkor AF 28-200 f3.5- 5.6G ED IF lens. With my "new" outfit, I plan to sell the D5100 in the near future.
During the last year, I used the forum to help me research my purchases and improve my macro photography of bugs and fishing flies used for the website.
So...thank you...for the info about camera reviews...photo software and how to use it...macro hardware, lighting, processing...camera settings...reliable vendors used.
I still have a lot to learn.

Welcome! We all have a lot to learn. I studied photography in the film days at the art school that was part of my university and have worked as a professional and semiprofessional for four decades and still have much to learn. The only photographers who think they 'know it all' just haven't yet learned what they don't know.

Welcome to the UHH.
That daily e-mail doesn't cover everything. Sign in directly to the site, go to "Home" and scroll down to "All Sections", review the different sections and subscribe to those you are interested in. Then when you sign in you click on Newest Topics, Watched Topics etc. to see what is posted each day.
