Articles here, have gave their opinoins on buying NEW or USED! Just recently, I will show two examples of cameras that I bought used and saved quite a bit of dollars. How much did
equipment cost new, how much did I save buying used ?

I bought a Olympus MD-1 Mark-2 from B&H used for $1649.00, cost NEW $1999.99. Saved $350.50, How's THAT, a week ago? Next I bought a Olympus Pen F on Ebay bidding up to $950.00 and won $876.00. Cost $1200.00 NEW, I saved $325.00 HOW'S THAT?

Check these photos . . . AP

Since I started using ebay a few years ago to purchase used microscope gear, I haven't bought a new camera or lens. I also buy all my music gear used on ebay as well. Depending on how many years old the item is, I generally pay anywhere from 50% to 10% of what the item cost new. I'm waiting for a D810 to get down to $500.

Yes. One of the top of the line Nikon DSLRs. They are selling used for about $1800 on ebay. When they hit $500 I'm going to buy one. May take a few years.

Just be glad you're not buying tractors.
I have bought mostly used tractors, and every one I bought used cost me more than it originally cost new.
The used tractors are still significantly cheaper than the new ones, so they're worth the expenditure (if they're in good condition).
The cost of a tractor is not the capital you put into it, but the maintenance.

To date, I have not had to spend more for a tractor than I paid for my first house.

Now you get to buy some used PRO lenses. I hear the 12-40 f/2.8 PRO is in the $600 range used...

They used to say that you could make money by buying a Rolls Royce... If you order a new one, there is a 2-year waiting list (or was *then*, no idea now). The day you take delivery (and hand over your $250,000...), order a new one. When *that* one is ready, you can sell your current one for more than the new price, to someone who doesn't want to wait the 2 years...

Never had even close to the funds available to try the theory out, I hasten to add!

The D8xx is closer to the bottom of Nikon's professional line. The top is the D5 which sells for over $6,000.

I don't know that they will ever reach $500 in full working order but you can get a used D800 for $899 already. (That one looks about like mine!)

I am shooting with a Nikon 1 V1 which had 879 clicks on it when I bought it used from KEH. They were almost $900.00 when they first were released. I paid a little over $200.00 for mine. How well I know the advantages of buying used. Especially when we have KEH, Adorama and B&H selling used.

Every single camera and lens I have were bought in the second hand market. Never Ebay, always from a private party. Never a problem with any of them.
I agree that buying used in good condition is a great way to save some money.

I bought a used Canon 1D Mark lll, with a certified shutter count of 8,500 [rated for 300,000] for $500.00. That camera brand new was $4,500.
I have do not have a auto focus problem with this camera, I have taken some tack sharp pictures of birds in flight. I usually print 8x10's. I am not planning on printing anything the size of a billboard, so the 10.1 mega pixels are enough for me.
I have purchased a older, 100-300 L used for $200.00. A 70-200 f/4 L for $400. A f/4 24-105 L for $400. And a F/4 300 L for $500. Every piece was in mint condition. So for $2,000 I got around $10,000 worth of gear. That 's 20%. Used doesn't bother me a bit.
