Here it is, a very special occasion; my wife's retirement party. 30 years at the same joint. That is one helluva accomplishment. I took over 300 pictures and this is the only one that came out halfway decent. To add insult to injury, the stupid cake ends up matching the tablecloth. What are the odds of that happening? Jesus.

Well, at least it is well balanced.

You did great!! The cake is in focus. the colors are great. Composition is nice. Not much more you can do when photographing cakes, especially when they match the tablecloth. LOL Don't discard any of your photos just yet. I use my laptop to upload my photos on, and windows 10 has a newly updated (simple) photo editing program, You can simply hit "enhance" button and it will automatically enhance your photo. Also, they have filters, and you can crop, etc. I am terrible in photoshop and lightroom, feel like I need a masters degree to get it. But the simple version in Windows 10 is a lifesaver for me. You can even add clarity to out of focus pictures. Try it! You will be surprised at what you can do! Keep posting!!

I’ve faced that kind of problems a lot when trying to just get some family pics for the albums. You don’t always have much control over the subject matter, and don’t want to be bore by fiddling around too much to get it “just right.” Are you familiar at all with Photoshop or a similar app? A simple adjustment can make a big difference. Here I selected the red tablecloth and converted it to light blue. Just one idea for fixing this kind of shot. Took all of about 2 minutes. Oh, and congratulations to Julie!

Lol. Thank you! I ran an experiment when I should not have. I thought there was enough lighting in the room we rented that I decided not to use a speedlight. I shoot in manual mode, but this time I decided to try auto ISO. big mistake. I hate pp with a passion and now I am stuck using lightroom and photoshop on every one of these pics (except the cake photo) trying to fix them. Good thing I shot in raw. I'm an idiot.

Yeah, I am actually pretty good with photoshop. I even have a couple of plugins that I could have used to change the table cloth colour but I thought it funny in an ironic sort of way that the cake was put on this particular tablecloth (not my doing). I like the blue.

Thanks, Corky! Here is a trick that goes against conventional wisdom; buy the most advanced and expensive camera out there. It doesn't matter what brand. By doing this, even if your pictures are way out of whack, at least they will be the best blurry, off color, wrong WB, out of focus pictures that one could ask for! Lol.
